I am having a little bad luck lately...for the most part...I thought I was overdosing...come to find out...I was underdosing...(thanks Sem

).dealing with Cocci....(which IDK how because they don't touch the ground...) Just ordered Sulmet..(am using Di-Methox right now) ...and put them in wire cages...anything else yall can suggest with be totally appreciated....

I clean the waterer every day. The original brooder was wooden...with a wooden floor...wire facing....I now have them in 2 wire cages...for the droppings to go on the ground...A 100W bulb....lately it has been 90 during the day...

Hmmm...I don't really know...

Chicks that were shipped may have been exposed to one type of cocci and then exposed chicks you had to a this type that they have not yet acquired an immunity to or the other way around. There are 9 separate protozoa that can cause cocci. All chickens have this present in their intestine and build up an immunity through gradual exposure. With chicks from different areas and your climate (which is cocci friendly) your birds may have been over exposed too quickly.

You could take a sample of poop to your vet and ask for a fecal test. They can tell you what kind of coccidia are involved and which medicine you should be using.

The only other thing would to be to keep all chicks separate until 8 weeks, when they should be pretty well immune...

Gee Mary, that's a strange one, not been out on the ground? What are the symptoms?

One of my D'uccles was making that wheezing noise, so I started them on LS50, and it's been 4 days, no problems. Can't figure out why, they were in the house. Maybe she aspirated some water. The 2 of them are always playing in the water. I just love them!

Sorry Nat. It is so annoying when they are even partly right, isn't it?

Fortunately I don't usually have that problem!

Here are a couple of pics of 4 silkie chicks. One died soon after hatching for some reason. AND 4 ameraucanas I had to save from my stupid broody who was trampling them. I think there are 2 silvers, 1 black and 1 blue.

One of those little silkie toots looks like a lemon blue! These guys aren't going to be standard colors, but hopefully one or 2 will make reliable broodies.

They seem much sweeter than my first silkie.

I had to make a little snow shoe for one because its foot was folded in half along the long axis. Seems to be working well and it scoots around just fine.
