We nerdy science chicks have to hang together. There are quite a few geologists around here involved in natural gas production. Followed by anthro and archeo to tell you were you can't drill.

I will reiterate (?sp), vet med ain't all its cracked up to be. Sorry, but I'm burned out and disgusted by what I've seen.

On a good note, I have 1 black cochin hatched and 4 more pipped.

I recently had to change vets because the one I had been going to was invited to the vet school in Georgia to do a specialist residency? Or something like that. Anyway, he was probably one of the smartest people I ever knew. I HATE changing vets.

Anyway, I ended up going to my neighbor 2 doors down the block. She has an office not too far away, on the edge of a lower income part of town, so she sees a lot of folks who can only give their pets very basic medical care, if that. She also sees folks who really care for their pets well. But this is the first vet clinic I have been to where you hear people actively complain to the vet or receptionist how much care costs. This is not an expensive clinic.

Anyway, I needed a vet after mine left and went to her. At first she was very hesitant and would ask if it was OK to do bloodwork and I would say Yes! Do bloodwork! Do whatever you need to do! I really had to push her to do stuff at first. I finally explained to her that I expect my animal's medical care to be AT LEAST as good as mine. If she felt that anything at all would be of help she needed to speak up. Anyway, she finally got the message and we have a really good working relationship, now. She figured out that mostly I know what I'm talking about, I read up on stuff, I research, and if I don't know I'll ask. She figured out if she didn't know she needed to contact and ask someone who did. I think she finds me a refreshing client. I used to be there weekly with my recently deceased dog and she took really, really good care of her.

I'm sorry you find your practice stressful, but I can really empathise. The way some people keep their pets is very discouraging and sad.

And, like you said, on a happier note I have 11 of Mrs. Chickendad's BLRW viening! Hurray!

Beaming good hatching thoughts your way, dak!

Do you show chickens or you really like cochins?

Yes, Kelly is my buddy from a thead I started over a year ago-there's a group of pheonmenal women over there that banded together instantly! They are just like us-they are the best of friends-I used to be on that thread everyday -allday-but then hatching started and I started this thread and I go back and forth-but recently Ive been swamped I haven't been on either very much:-*(

What thread is this?

Is that the "no new PM's waiting for you" thread Nat? I havent been on much either. I have been attempting to do real life stuff more. Since I dumped the ex i am more likely to go back to doing things I really enjoyed. Oddly, like fishing... I caught my first sturgeon! Dam ugly fish I might add. We were able to catch and release 2 that day. (We pretty much catch and release everything, we do eat the perch though... yummy!) I do more now then I've done for the last 8 years, but I miss you guys too

I ended up with 2 ducklings out of 20 eggs. I had 14 good ones going into lockdown so I have NO idea what I did wrong

Oh well. The two babies I have, have each other. One crested white, one cayuga and they love each other to bits. I think I am keeping the ducks...

How hard can two ducks be to keep right?

Yea my hubby gets annoyed as well but is trying to tolerate it. I am almost done with hatching mostly peachicks now- it is just for fun really as I live in Del Mar and can't keep a ton of birds. When they get too big I rehome most of the chicks.

Phage is the name my brothers gave me as a kid, I am actually an ex radiologist, ex because I just do high field MRI research at the local University. Also do imaging for the marine rescue at Seaworld which is a lot of fun. My pet project is developing imaging methods that reduce the numbers of animals used in research.

Awww, what a job!

Dak, did you go to bed???

This an MRI of an egg:

Gnarly MRI dude!

No, I called the PO at 7am they said no eggs. I called at 8am, they said no eggs. I drove over and spoke to a different gal who wants chickens from me. Lo and behold the eggs were found. Unfortunately, 2 of 6 were cracked. I may start drinking early today.
