Owner used a topical formulation.

OMG. Did she let the dog lick her, or something? Were they toy or small dogs?

Sorry. I want to know all the gory details. Students expect you to know stuff like that.

Don't quote me, (I doze off at alot of CE) but I believe it's like Hoppy says, simple close contact. This particular case was a medium breed. It's probably similar to DES (diethylstilbesterol a synthetic estrogen) used for incontinence in spayed female dogs. Adverse effects listed are blood dyscrasias, toxicity to bone marrow resulting anemia, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia and can lead to fatal aplastic anemia.

Chicken math... now I was never good at chicken math, but here I go.. today I lost 3 cochins and 1 partridge chantecler (to a good friend so no real stress). Then I lost 1 that stressed and spontaneously died. Then I lost all of my roosters but my 2 BLRW breeding roos, 1 olive egger and 1 tiny lav bantam ameraucana. Thus I lost 7 more. Lost one more olive egger hen... for a grand total of 13 birds that died, were sold, or were given away... it was a hard day at the ranch

Those sudden deaths are hard. And giving away or even selling the ones your partial to is hard so

Hatching can be real frustrating. Most of my problems were related to readings that were off. Now I have like 3 of everything. I was getting wonderful hatches in my styrofoam, hand turning. Then I got the r-com with the self turner, and I had 1-2 breech chicks each hatch. The r-com doesn't keep them propped up. I don't think I've had any die late on. Usually before day 10, or not developing. Hope you figure out what's going on.

The other thing I wonder about is that we have chickens now who lay nice strong shells, and nice big chicks, but that kinda works against a good hatch, doesn't it?

I've figured out I'm getting a new incubator. I still think my mile high elevation is an issue and a new incubator won't solve that. My hatches are right on time wise. I do have 2-3 hygrometers and thermometers. I keep humidity at 45% then 60-65% for LD. I have a turner. Somehow I think though, they did better hand turned

Sem, it worries me what you're saying about the r-com. I am looking at that and the brinseas.

Dak, seems like mine do the best hand turned. Maybe it's just the touch. With the R-com, I just propped them up twice a day. But next time I'm tempted to turn the turner off. Aside from that, when you open it and close it, the temp and humidity recover super fast. And that thing is steady stable with temp and humidity, but I did have to calibrate it when I got it. I decided to go with the rcom eco vs the brinsea because I wanted a big window with no obstacles. I like to watch. All the others just don't give you a view like it.

I think your altitude has alot to do with it too. What may help is eggs from a high altitude. Hatcheries use additional O2 in high altitude. I think I would go with higher humidity as well, like closer to 70. Always something, right?

Well, I have 4 silkies sitting on 3 eggs. I don't know about the eggs yet, but I have to say that today the silkies got real humid underneath. Like a steam room. Hmmm.
I felt bad for them in the coop and put a little fan up in there last week. No panting. In fact I have a bigger fan on them in a covered pen, and NO panting!!!

I had to laugh at something today. My 3 Polish girls are always in hiding because of the JG roo. Poor things are so nervous. I took one today and gave her a nice haircut around her eyes so she can see everything. For the rest of the day, she acted so different, much calmer and less scared. I gotta catch the other 2 now and cut their bangs!

Put them in the r-com in a piece of egg carton Sem... seems to work really well. Yah the "trays" allow them to tip over... i agree.

Yea, rather than buy a new bator, I am really happy with it otherwise. I've never had breech babies before this bator.

Phage, you too? I didn't realize that there were more that have had this problem .

I am so sorry. I really don't know what I'd do if that happened to me. Hopefully if it did I would have a relative nearby with alot of property. Fat chance, I'm the only country girl in my family.
