So i did see a tiny bruise,went for it like a safehole, slowly scratching until i peeled away a large area and was elated to find the bill there. There no bleeding, but to my shock the baby took a few gasps and passed away. It was difficult to understand why, but i was certain it did when the veins disappeared and it stopped moving and breathing. I opened the egg further and found it had a bi-lobed yolk and one of the lobes was light green. Im not sure if it was my fault or not but considering the green yolk it probably wouldn't have lived anyway.
Oh well, i did all i could.

So sorry and sorry I wasn't here when you needed help! But I wouldn't have known what to say anyway so thank you pyxis!
And please post pics of your other fluffy babies when they arrive!

No pipping going on under my broody. Guess I don't have to come down sick tomorrow! It actually looks like it could be a couple more days.
But I still see movement so I'm ok with that!

Thank you so much! I have three internal pips now and two others that are worrying me, especially one that when i candle it it looks like i can see embryotic waste near the air cell... which means another malpositioned one. Im not as confident as before because I'm not sure what I did wrong with the other one, things were going so well, although i did note that it wasnt very lively while i was working away at the shell. Not much response to touch or tapping, so maybe it was already on its way out when i got to it.

That is myth, debunked that a couple years ago... eggs with safe holes and even bigger holes will still do their own external pips...

Wow! I read it on a byc sticky. These eggs are from my own girls, their first season laying. I dont know what you mean about typey but i imagine you mean quality? Theyre PQ but have very short bills and are very small and I believe they could possibly qualify for SQ if i was interested. I added safe holes last night anyway. Thanks for the help

One of the two malpositioned ones showed slight movement in the aircell and I knew it was trying to get air. I was able to find its bill with much success again and it is breathing and chewing regularly, however, it has a green yolk, and with close observation i can even see it when i candle. I expect it wont make it. So i candled the other and its hard to tell but i dont see clear green so i hope its ok, im waiting on irregular movement in the aircell on that one.
in the future i will try to achieve better sterilization.

You have your safety holes in place. . just a note I wouldn't assist any further until you are sure they are done absorbing the yolk. Try to wait for an external pip. . then watch for them to turn and try to zip. That is the point where they can cut off their own air supply and need further assistance.

Eggs laid in their first month of laying usually do not make it to hatch, just fyi... typey does mean how small they are, how short their necks are... and smaller more typey ducks will have much lower hatch rates no matter what... all you can do is your best and keep
