Shaws call duck incubation thread (hatch a wonderful(worthless to Ralphie) dux thread)

Then I'm wrong, because I thought duskys weren't supposed to have eye stripes. :he

Pyxis, are you sure yours is dusky??

Dusky Mallard (m^d); dusky duckling down pattern varies considerably from the wild-type mallard & restricted mallard above. Dark pigment is extended uniformly over the dorsal surface with no evidence of facial markings & dorsal spots being evident. Ventral surface areas, although lighter, still exhibit colour other than dull yellow, with bill & legs being dark-ish also. As adults, the males in nuptial plumage lack claret breast & neck rings (dark phase), & the speculum (iridescent wing bars) are obscured & less clearly defined. Dusky females (& males in eclipse plumage) lack the eye-stripes, & both sexes are pigmented underwing (dark & light phase).

Yeah, they don't really have eye stripes as adults since the dusky gene does away with it, but I wasn't sure if they could have them as babies. That baby Ravyn told me was dusky. Maybe not  It definitely wasn't a regular gray.

This one is also labeled as dusky by someone here on BYC that breeds them:

Guess it'll be interesting to watch them grow out.

Well, Phoebe is not giving up on her last 3 eggs. and I can't get to them to candle. She has them about half way from each end of that baby coop any my arms aren't that long.
So my hubby has this thing you can put down a drain or hole with a light and camera on one end, about a 4' long bendable arm, and camera viewer on the hand held end. I'm going to try to candle the eggs with it after dark. Or at least see if I can see air cell or what. I'll have to run her out of there if they are dead.

So i was able to get the See Snake back there on 1 egg to candle, but couldn't see anything on the screen. By myself, i was afraid of whacking the egg trying to look at a screen without watching the lighted tip. But I could see the air cell. It's not obviously dead, is all I can say for sure. I thought I saw movement, but maybe because I wanted to. Lol
If she keeps moving them backwards like she did today, I might be able to reach them tomorrow.

Yeah, that little one sure is a mystery, lol. I guess we'll know eventually but it's hard to be patient :p

I wish I knew what the darker Grey one looked like as a baby, but Lexi had a few that were greys, and a couple of them got killed, so I don't know.
The 2 in the middle were Lexi babies. The 2 on the ends are ones I hatched.

I hope they're alive for her :fl

I candled Sugar's eggs (my pekin) and she had a bunch that were hers and three greens that I'm sure are Jujube's. So three Call eggs. Unfortunately, all of Sugar's eggs were infertile. Pumkpin, her boyfriend, is getting a little older now so it might be he just can't do the job any more, and I guess she's not mating with the Call drakes. Jujube's eggs however were all growing. Which is good, but I'm worried about if they'll be able to hatch on their own.

So I checked that out - that is just from a pin on Pinterest that pops up if you search dusky, but the one in the back is definitely not dusky. And it's originally taken from this website, which says nothing about what colors those actually are:

Guess i shoulda looked deeper into that pic..

So what about it possibly being khaki, if not chocolate or dusky?
