She roasted the chicks! IM SO ANGRY

I hope you have a great hatch. These eggs have come from such a kind person with such nice intentions that I bet they all hatch for you. They have to, it is just meant to be.

I am not going to give you any suggestions on humidity as you have more experiance than I do. I am sure that someone experienced person will come along and give you some good advice. The only thing I have learned for sure in the last few months is that BYC is an awesome place and KEEP THE VENTS OPEN on your incubator.

Good luck and be ready to take pictures of your new babies.

oh thats great, I would do a regular hatch as they traveled a while and may are surely more fragile as I dont always have the best lav hatches here at the house. fertilization is great but some hens lay such small eggs I think the chicks cant fully develop. But the splits and Ameraucanas all hatch great and I am pretty confident you will hatch out some pure lavs as I know that is the point

I would try to keep the humidity around 50 until day 18 lockdown when I bump it to 70 or 75 if I can and walk away.

Good Luck let me know how it turns out

oh I just posted an auction on eggbid for the same eggs I sent you (from same flock I should say) The chicks just hatched and are a good representation of what you should hatch out. I was taking new pics of the adults today but no one was staying still and my batery was dying but some pics are from today others are older but you get the idea. check out the blk sg she is the newbie, and the last lav pic is one of the ones I hatched it is in the pen with whites and splits now which is why you see all white (and a white split lav sg tail feathers) in the backround

You sound like a real smart, strong girl who knows what you want. I'm so sorry about all of this. You'll be ok. I hate the fact that your sister just blows it off. That is NOT cool at all. Being 18, things are tough on and off at that age. Just stay true to yourself and go for what you want and what you believe. There is always hope to get your extra special babies early next year. I know you don't want to hear that but it is true!! Keep your head up, you sound strong! By the way... Don't ever let a boy get you down! They are not worth it. I've tried too hard only finding out they are losers. Have a wonderful husband now though. Work on your education and let relationships come later. It will happen and it will happen at the right time and you will know when its right!! I didn't go to my prom either, but that is just because I'm a Tom Boy and didn't want to! Good luck to you!
P.S. I only read your first post.

Yes its hard. I like the idea of sitting down with your parents and working out a way for your sister to pay for the damages. I know it will not pay for the emotional investment you had in these birds. Never let them near your chicks for a long while. Best to keep them in your room. Its stay out, don't touch and you must make your parents understand your feelings in this. It wasn't an accident , it was misconduct on the part of your sister. Then you must consider her age in this and you should of known better than to trust such a prize possesion in their hands. You take some of the blame too. A child is a child.

This is an awesome thread I JUST ran across!!! (where have I been??)

Anyways, I am sooo glad you got some awesome eggs to replace your poor banties. I too would be more than livid, but it sounds like some good lessons were learned.... eventually

Hey kiddo, I have not chimed in on this, but today I talked to my daughter. She is 9 and we discussed what your sister had done, and I asked her, "Do you think a nine year old should know better?" and she said, "Absolutely. Even if you think your bigger sister is being bossy or something you don't take another animals life just to be getting back at her." So I asked her, "What do YOU think the punishment should be for this or should the little sister even be punished?" My 9 year old said, "This was her sister's project and these were living animals, that's pretty serious. I think she should have to say she was very sorry and then work something out to either earn the money to pay her back or have to do some service for the family or ehr sister to make it up to her."

There you go. That is what a nine year old thinks another nine year old should have to do. Frankly I agree.

Not holding a child that age accountable for her actions is a recipe for future failure to recognize consequences until it is too late. It is better for everyone to help kids learn consequences when they are young than to try to explain them through prison bars later in life.

Bren told me that when hatching out my Lav's that I need to watch them closely when they have zipped and help them out. She said they have trouble getting out even after completely zipping. She said that Lav's are harder to hatch. She also said they are slower maturing.

Good luck with the hatch.
