She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Good news: I collected four eggs from my 5 hens today! First time in 3 days I have gotten more than just a couple eggs from them. Unfortunetly two of them need to be Gibbs slapped cause they aren't using the boxes!! Augh! I have one that insists she needs to lay them right in front of the door to walk in the coop and for the first time my nn/ee decided to just drop it out in the run. The other two were right in the nesting boxes where they belong. Maybe I'll be able to start collecting sooner than I planned.

That's always a good feeling!

well spend the day in a sale barn trying to raise money for a better incubator because at my age I need to keep my worn out body parts. I come home and you guys have filled two more pages. My eyes are getting whiplash . I'm wondering which thread on the BYC has the most post. I think your going to beat it . I'm sure there will be a hatch off after the hatch off after the hatch off and then the debate over the hatch off . lets see the mud slinging started out good but is dragging a little and out side input is staying about the same. I guess its safe to sit on the chair now and drink my (Jack Daniels Black label whiskey ) instead of hiding under it and watch the show whenever time permits. When I log on tomorrow there will be two more pages to read. so I had better rest my eyes.

It seems that my girls are picking back up so maybe I'll give them this next week to be sure and after sc's batch hatch all out I will start collecting my bigger pullet eggs and see what I can get in a week's time to set. (I do want to set on a Wednesday/Thursday, that I know.) Who has incubated pullet eggs and what has your experience and outcome been with them??? I'm trying to make sure that I'm not using any abnormally small ones. They are laying decent sizes. My polish and silkie I expect to be a bit smaller. I am debating on using my nn/ee's eggs because those are smaller than I would like to see for incubation. A few days ago she laid a huge egg. I was all excited thinking yes, she's laying bigger eggs, I'll be able to incubate some of hers...well, it was so big because it was a double yolker...lol. Thoughts on using pullet eggs other than the typical, you shouldn't because they have limited size and nutition.

I have also decided that I am going to choose two of the eggs. One of my Polish and one of my silkie eggs (They are the lightest in color.) And those two will be candled every night from set to lockdown. I'm doing this for two (OK, 3) reasons. One- (If my camera will cooperate and give me decent candling pics) I need pics for my blog of the process and development. Two: Because of the conservative stance on NOT candleing regulary. (Three...it just feeds my candling addiction.

And if they hatch out all right, I'm naming one Lumiere. Any "bright" ideas for the other? lol

Hmmm, let's see:

Clytie/Clytia - From Greek Mythology, the water nymph who fell in love with the sun god Helios and turned into a sunflower.

Candelaria - Spanish name meaning candle (obviously). Candy for short?

Lucia/Lucinda/Lucille/Lucy - From the Latin word for light.

Sorcha - Gaelic name meaning radiant.

Zora (female form of Zoran) - Serbian name meaning "light of dawn."

And a big shout out to all the MOMS out there today. Happy mother's day moms!!!
I'm with Amy on this With out mom there would not be a me ! I like being me. I'm sure I just finished hatching pullet eggs .they were small for Easter eggers The chicks are small 20 shipped 11 hatched had to help 5 . I think that I've been sent pullet eggs every time I have bought shipped eggs. I also believe that's helped with my awful hatch rates. I have my own blue eggs in my incubator and they are at least a third bigger than the shipped ones . I think if you use your pullet eggs you are going to help a lot hatch. I tell you I'm thinking of going back to the hens. at least I would have a deferent excuse for my bad hatch's .

LOL. Mine are at least (with the exception of my ee and my silkie) the size of store bought small/mediums-more toward the medium side. My ee is ee/nn I am surprised that hers has not picked up in size like the rest as nns are known for larger eggs. We will see. If I have a bad hatch rate I can blame it on that.
