She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

*Update* All 9 have made it to lockdown and they are VERY active and looking good. :fl that all 9 make it but prepared for none. Actually, no, I'm not, but I'll get over it and set again soon after.
ETA: I'm having problems getting my humidity up. It's made it up to 62% but won't go any farther. I've got 3 sponges and all channels full. Don't know what to do now?

Ok I'm ready to throw everybody for a loop on this one. Ok so I'm as new as new gets when it comes to chickens. I was doing some work for a lady and I kept admiring here Buff Couchin rooster so much to my surprise when I got done with the job she gave him and 2 black sex link hens to me. So I built a nice little coop and they are happy as can be. Ok so I'm the kinda person that wants things to match so I decided I need some hens, well I searched and after a while I found some but they're getting up in age so I want to hatch some. So I turned to a friend of mine that has had chickens as long as I can remember for advice. Well he does something I can't find anywhere else on the Internet. He basically keeps his baton full 24/7/365 Basically if he has a chick hatch today tomorrow he puts in a new egg. Now after he told me this I looked to the Internet and I can't find anyone doing this, but what's crazy is he has a 85% hatch rate. What r u opinions bc I'm lost now
As others said, it's a staggered hatch. I talked to someone on here awhile back that does that. They have it setup so that for a whole month during spring, they get a few eggs to hatch every single day. I would love that!! But I don't know how they work it out with humidity.
I wonder how he broods them?
Good question!

Is your hygrometer calibrated? It can take a few hours for it to register properly.

Yeah, I calibrated it is off by 3%. I'll keep checking it and see where it ends up. I checked again a second ago and it had gone up to 64%. I guess I spoke too soon, lol.

Ugh hygrometers. I bought 2 additional to use in the 'bator (1 digital and 1 analog). Did the salt reading to see if they are accurate. the analog one is about 10% higher than the digital, and of course i bought the cheap one that doesn't have a manual adjustment on it

. The digital reading was at 52%, so pretty close. The temp on both are accurate to the thermostat. 'Bator is set to be delivered Friday, so I will be testing all 3 to see if the 'bator and digital match/near match.

And why is life never easy? Got a total of 5 hours of sleep last night to be woken up bright and early because the dog had a seizure. He was ok all morning, then about an hour ago had 3 in a row. So I "get" to stay home with him until the vet can see him. Yay for sick days being spent waiting/watching for seizures instead of my own sickness. Canine epilepsy stinks. In case anyone had any doubts.

Friday, I love them! One of my first EE's looked like the one in the lower right side of the photo. I am hoping, crossing fingers that I have a couple of pullets out there that will lay me an OE and .. or.. a blue egg this winter.

I don't dare take my birds to shows..not in the county anyway, they don't watch them close enough. I would feel like I would have to be there most of the time. Congrats on your Russians...

I've never entered a 'real" show, maybe next year. This was on Facebook and just judged on pictures. With the AI scare and lots of poultry shows shut down, the virtual show was pretty popular - I think there was around 2700 entries.

So glad I entered though, because I was able to see so many of the winners and compare their pictures. It gave me a nice idea on what some of the judges are looking for.
