She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Final update on my hatch last week. 12 hatched out of 14 good eggs. One did expire already. It pipped externally and then dried out so we helped it out. It had curled feet. It died a day later. So we have 11 new chicks on the ground. I need to get a good pic of the group. 6 yellow, 5 Marans chick color (one died) and 1 grey chick patterned like a Marans. Interesting. And a few of them have feathered shanks.

Of the eggs left I did candle them and one had internally pipped. Sad too, you could see the scratches on the inside of the egg where it failed to pip externally. I'm just not going to look or help anymore. I'm going full blue from now on. It sucks to have the kids see the curled footed chicks scream and then finally die.

I think the two had issues from the temp drops.
Great hatch!!! We are full blue too, for the reasons you have stated. Congrats on the high numbers!

I've got a lovely hurricane headed my direction... I'm going to build something to house my birds in the garage for this weekend. :-( we just bought this house. Send prayers please. It seems like I've got everything I ever dreamed of as a kid, the loving husband, healthy kids, a safe place to call home, and chickens. I'm hoping that we make it safely through this.
praying for you. They don't know for sure where its headed I'm only 60 miles inland from Brunswick....that wouldn't be pretty.

So I officially locked down my most recent batch of shipped eggs. Out of 12, 9 started to develop and all 9 made it to lockdown. It's actually day 19 because I gave them an extra 24 hours for air cell growth. :fl for this batch!

Praying for you. Stay calm and ride it out. I lived in Florida for 5 years and had lots of close calls! I know how you feel. :hugs

You are so lucky!! That is awesome. Give hubby a high five for me.
That's so cool that you guys are close enough to go to the same auctions! How far are you from the auction?. I think the closet one to me is about an hour and a half.

Its closer for me than Ravyn about twenty five miles and little more for Ravyn . a lot closer than the swap meet they were going to take their chickens to. that's at lest seventy five miles for me . I don't know how far it is for Ravyn . auctions are sometimes good and sometimes bad but I have thirty three less chickens to feed. twenty eight of those roosters

we have auctions here to but sometimes they give them a sale period to sell them for asking price. Then whatever is left goes to afternoon auction. It cost $ 10 to just rent a stall if your not wanting to auction.

Hubby said he would finish the 8*6*6 pen for my coronations this weekend. He is gonna build me one more of those then build me a 20*24*12 so that I can keep my breeds separated. I've got lav orps, Coronation, spec Sussex, sumtaler, that I want to put in it. My bantams, RIR and leghorns can go in the other pens, and if I am lucky I'll get Amerucauna if they make it to lock down. I really want welsummers too but so far haven't had any shipped eggs hatch in those.

If your stuff doesn't auction for the minimum you want, you can declare 'no sale' and state your minimum to give the highest bidder a chance to still buy at your price... but any birds we take, we aren't bringing back home, so some losses can happen...

There's an ebayer who sells Welsummer eggs, if you catch any of his auctions I recommend him highly... goes by cluckandcrow username on ebay... great quality birds and honest seller...
