She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Just an idea...I've seen this with a silkie breeder (amber waves silkies), they sell DNA sexed female chicks for $150-$200 per chick. I shopped around for the cheapest companies that do feather DNA sexing and found 2 that I believe were around $12-15 per chick. I can post the info if you'd like it. Also, the price goes down if you sex 6 or more chicks.

13 of 16 of my quail eggs hatched, so far

One of them I shouldn't a set, looked like a wind egg but was curious

From my backyard...

So I candled all the eggs. Here are my results. Started with 41 only 17 remain. All 12 SLP eggs were clears. So I pulled them.

. That makes me happy. Out of 16 silkie eggs I only have 4 growing.

Their air cells are very wobbly. One is a questionable early quitter. Then out of the 4 Breese cross eggs from Turk I have one quitter and the other 3 growing great!!
Can't wait to see the silkies, hope they hatch. Too bad it's only 4.

Last night was such a nightmare!!! We had a horrible storm. Power is still out. It went out at 12:30am. I had set eggs at 6pm, so I'm not really worried about them. They can warm and cool in early incubation with no ill effects, right? I've read about large hatcheries heating and cooling them before the heart start beating, I forget why they do that but I think they will be okay to get reset tonight.

But...I have 10 chicks that were only around 24 hours old. They started crying like crazy. No generator, so I brought all 10 chicks into bed with me. I couldn't think of anything else to do. They actually loved it! They snuggled up next to my skin and I put all the covers over them. They made that little trilling sound they make when they are happy and going to bed. But I barely slept a wink. I had my 1 year old baby on one side of me that kept waking and crying because the thunder and wind was so intense. Then 10 little chicks preening and snuggle on the other side of me all night. Got out of bed at 6am and drove them to my moms with the heat light. Oh what a night!!

Definitely buying a generator when I get my tax return!

Oh my. That sucks! When I brought Frosty in to raise him the first week, he would only calm down if I put him in bed with me and let him cuddle up under my chin, which was fine-until he pooped on me. Then he'd have to go back to his cage.

Well it's really Amy's fault every time I loose power! No, I'm just joking. It actually hasn't been to bad. This is the third time in a year. Not so bad. But I need to get a generator. Especially now that spring is almost here and I'll be hatching a lot and having newborn chicks. Has your humidity been better in the new incubators? You did get them up and running, right?
Don't make me slap you- I actually like you.

:lau I couldn't resist!! The chicks were crying and I was thinking "how am I going to get any sleep with them being so loud" but once the were warm and settled they loved it!! Not a peep out of them! I laid a towel down on the bed but most of them hadn't even gone for the first time yet, so no poops. I still have to get pics of them. They are the cutest chicks ever! :)
