Oh my! Bet that was quite a night. Good luck for it to come back on. I thought you got an inverter?

they do get hot made for quick warming of very cold hands are you on a well ? wondering why you didn't do hot water ?
That's IS cool!
They are most often NOT fertile as they usually separate males and females for meat/eggs respectively. They only keep a few breeding cages for hatching, usually.
Never hurts to crack a few and check!
Worst case you got breakfast!
I shut down hatching for a while. In the hatcher it was when I used it .going to try and set some this weekend and next all this other stuff has kept me to busy. don't remember if I told you I but awhole box of damprid in the hatcher and all that happened was the little pellets stuck together a little bit and the humidity didn't change stayed 29 to 31 % so I think so I 'll make video of the air movement in it and put it on you tube as soon as I can. gotta go Ben is waiting in the truckWell it's really Amy's fault every time I loose power! No, I'm just joking. It actually hasn't been to bad. This is the third time in a year. Not so bad. But I need to get a generator. Especially now that spring is almost here and I'll be hatching a lot and having newborn chicks. Has your humidity been better in the new incubators? You did get them up and running, right?

Yes, I have a well and my hot water heater is electric. If I ever need a new stove I'm going to get a gas stove. Because even if the power goes out, you can use a match to light it. I thought about that too because I have a hot water bottle but no hot water! They were so cute snuggled up against me. I had a line of chicks down my whole torso!
Yeah I was thinking about buying a dozen. On the label it says that quail eggs have 4 times the DHA and amino acids then chicken eggs. I actually have an awesome breeder about 25-30 mins away. So if we do hatch quail this year, I will get eggs from her. My neighbor has quail eggs but his birds are not healthy. He has way to many males vs. females and they are all pecked up with bloody scabs all over them. It's sad.

I did get one for the car. But I had just turned the heat on in the incubator at 6pm, and let them slowly warm up. So it could have only been a few hours of heat they got. I didn't think it would be worth it to start the car and move them out there. I don't remember why the hatcheries do it, but they warm the eggs for a few hours and then take them off the heat. I think it extends their viability maybe? As long as the heart hasn't started to beat, the article was saying you can heat and cool with no problems. So I'm hoping...
That's great about the eggs!! My fertility has been 100% too. So I know the boys are doing their job!
Oh my goodness, so cute! She did a great job!! Are you going to brood them or let her to do? I have my first broody silkie too. She's on day 9. She's very petite so I only gave her 4 eggs. I literally, never see her off the nest, ever. I find a big poop about every 3 days but I never see her eat or drink. Think she'll be ok? The food never seems to be even touched.
Precious!The dark ones are stunning!

Last night was such a nightmare!!! We had a horrible storm. Power is still out. It went out at 12:30am. I had set eggs at 6pm, so I'm not really worried about them. They can warm and cool in early incubation with no ill effects, right? I've read about large hatcheries heating and cooling them before the heart start beating, I forget why they do that but I think they will be okay to get reset tonight.
But...I have 10 chicks that were only around 24 hours old. They started crying like crazy. No generator, so I brought all 10 chicks into bed with me. I couldn't think of anything else to do. They actually loved it! They snuggled up next to my skin and I put all the covers over them. They made that little trilling sound they make when they are happy and going to bed. But I barely slept a wink. I had my 1 year old baby on one side of me that kept waking and crying because the thunder and wind was so intense. Then 10 little chicks preening and snuggle on the other side of me all night. Got out of bed at 6am and drove them to my moms with the heat light. Oh what a night!!
Definitely buying a generator when I get my tax return!
