She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

So I found an egg this morning, in the run, right in front of the food and water. It was very blood streaked. Would this most likely be a new pullet egg? It was a good size, if it was. Not huge or anything but not tiny like I've seen some pullet eggs. I have a bunch of girls between 5-6 months old. And I must have just missed it being laid, it was warm. Hmmmm.
I'd love to hear your ideas!! Please, spill the beans!
Most of my streaked eggs are from the first 2 or 3 a pullet lays, and I have had some fairly large eggs from pullets

They like it so much that none of them want to come back to Michigan.  They are all in very different climate areas of Texas.  My parents are down in the subtropical coastal area near South Padre Island where they have palm trees, grapefruit and oranges, bananas and papayas and avocados in the back yard, one sister is on a small farm near Houston with climate more like Georgia and Alabama, and the other is in a cooler, drier area in the hills.

I'm still looking for the perfect climate where I can hatch and brood year round, ride my motorcycle and enjoy the classic car without being too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry, or too close to the coast (rust) but close enough to go fishing every few weekends.

Well come on down!

I'd say a new layer.

You think I'd be able to tell?? Going out to check butts now!

I wouldn't think so as it's the membrane around the vent that contains the vessels that "break" during laying and once the egg is laid the membranes suck back in. The last week I have had 4 or 5 with blood streaks, but no noticeable red buts. I'm wondering if the three that were raised by broody are starting to lay.

So, I'm pretty sure then it is a new girl laying then. I have a bunch of pullets I'm waiting on. So now to figure out who it was and time to put the fake eggs back in the nest box.

Partridge!! lol

alright, I set my eggs just barely (like 30 minutes ago) in the classroom at my kids school. I let the incubator (brinsea mini advance) sit and warm up all morning. While I was there the turner started going and I noticed only 2 of the 7 eggs are turning--the smallest two. I marked them all with an X on the top and an O on the bottom so the teachers can watch them today and see if they start turning. I turned in manually with my hands also and sure enough, only two are turning properly. I played around with the placement of the eggs trying to get them to touch the bottom, but they just aren't doing it.

Here's some info: 7 barnyard mix eggs of various sizes, 'bator set at a 12 angle, turning every 60 minutes, with a 1 hour of cooling sometime during a 24hr cycle. I set the eggs with the pointy end to the outside and made sure the turner was put in the correct direction (with the dividing lines facing up)

What else can I do to get the eggs to turn? It's in a classroom, I don't want the teacher to have to worry about coming in over the weekends to manually turn the eggs.

@RubyNala97 had a couple of the minis, maybe she can help.

:fl  Partridge!! lol

Yeah, I looked at the vents on the girls and you can't tell, so you are right. Maybe it is the partridge!

I don't have the turner. I hand turn 5 x day BUT try the pointy end in toward the well. I've looked into how the eggs should face and the majority of pics I saw have the pointy end facing in. I always do it that way. Plus, at lockdown you can candle through the dome and see inside the egg that way. First 24-48 hours are not the most important days for turning. 3-8 are. So hopefully you can get it figured out. Switch and let us know! :fl

I'm hoping its the partridge....lol By the way it looks we won't be taking our mini vaca now until the 17-20, so if the weather is good after that I'll be ready!!! Depending on how well the silkie hatch goes, I might turn around and do my nn & banty hatch after.

I had a mini that didnt turn all the eggs properly too. I marked them, as you did, and hand turned the eggs as much as possible. Turn them at least 4 times a day, but the more the better. Eggs can be turned once an hour. Turning keeps the embryo and yolk centered and gives the growing chick a new food source each time you turn. After long periods, the embryo has consumed all food near to it.

We flipped the eggs so the pointy ends were facing in and it still didn't turn right. I made a chart for the teacher to hand turn a few times every day (an odd amount). She's probably going to come in a few times on the weekends to turn them, I feel bad about that.

I wonder if it is because of the size difference in the eggs. They're mostly medium to largish (1 is rather large, the carton didn't want to close with it in!) but the two that were turning were the smallest ones.
