WVany good news today ?
I've got shipped eggs on the way, too. If they get here Saturday, I'll hold them for a day of rest and set Sunday, maybe Monday, depending on the time. 7 days seems way too long for me to not turn, so they'll sit in the incubator for a day without turning, and I'll probably turn gently day 2, then turn as normal day 3.
Last time I did shipped eggs it didn't go well. (5/29) so I'm hoping for a few to hatch out of the dozen I ordered. I'm hoping ordering from the next state over at a higher altitude will help, too.
I only have 21 chickens and 3 turkeys. I am not free ranging them at the moment because I am planting my garden. Without the meat ones. They do eat a lot. I do give them cabbage and other fruits and veggies every day too.
Who me?
Sorry folks. Came home after work, dog hopped in my lap, and we dozed off. Went back to the hospital, hubby had another procedure done to remove more fluid, seems to have helped, but the nights always seem to be worse. So we'll see
I must have missed it, but what are you getting???
Oh and Amy -- awesome cakes girl! You could make money doing those for other people! Do you? Happy birthday to your boy too!
Off to bed, see you guys tomorrow. Please nobody fall through the ice tonight, huh!
Oh no made perfect sense. Same logic as washing your face in warm to open your pores and scrub it and rinsing in cold to close your pores. Just not something you think about with eggs and egg shells....lolAnd K calls ME bad?!?!?![]()
Nice cake!!!![]()
As to why on the water temp... heat causes expansion, pushes outward through shell... cold causes contraction, thus sucking in through the shell... make sense?
Hope everything is ok.Sorry folks. Came home after work, dog hopped in my lap, and we dozed off. Went back to the hospital, hubby had another procedure done to remove more fluid, seems to have helped, but the nights always seem to be worse. So we'll see![]()

" Hi I'm Dee and I'm now a hatchaholic...I think..... previously known as chickenaholic, blondaholic, talkaholic, and Birds Momma". Please welcome me into your insane horrible humored flock with open arms. LOLOL!!!!!
Sorry, but after conversing with SC, I kinda felt like I fit well here and honestly, need your advise on my first hatching experience. I am already planning for my second set into the bator and im only on day 3 of my first set!!!!!!! I am doing SO much reading and learning about incubating and hatching its ridiculous. I never realized how much of a science it is!
I have gone back a few dozen pages and read so much of your guys post, I hope you don't mind me butting in?
My flock has their own FB page called Bird and the Fluffy Butts is you wan to know anything about my flock. and anything else? hell just ask.![]()
Hi guys, I'm going to jump in here, hope you don't mind! I'd categorize myself somewhere between the 2 thread starters. I love to candle, and I'm pretty good at leaving things be once lockdown has come. I will assist a stuck chick if I need to though.
Along with some EE's and OE'S, I have 1 marans hen laying a nice dark egg for me about every other day. I really want to hatch some of her eggs, so the eggs I'm going to set next week are going to be older than your normal "7 days or newer" eggs. I'm keeping a damp towel over them in a Styrofoam egg container, tipping opposite ends twice a day. The air cells appear to be maintaining, eventhough the air in our house is so dry. (Cold here in Michigan, furnace running).
I've heard of people hatching old eggs or even refrigerated eggs. I'd love to hear some tips from those that have some experience with this.
Thanks ~ Megan
