She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

:th Sorry Ross i had no idea!
;) i hadnt cracked one that was a
Double! Cant believe that!

Chit happens, not like you did anything on purpose... don't fret...

That's okay. Not.your fault. Honestly, I thought the big white ones were the double not the regular green size one!!! ;) !!!! And both of the large white ones are going strong so...we shall see. :/

Lots of moving and grooving from 3 of them. I have a feeling the one that didn't look right probably quit on me.

Not all double yolkers are huge... in some they both have smaller yolks so can look just like a regular egg...

Ravyn, have you ever seen anything like that in a duck egg? Think it was a twin?

It looks a lot like pics I've seen of tried doubles where one quit fairly early... I have not seen it personally though, cuz I have never set a double yolker and personal choice I never will... I'm masochistic enough hatching Calls, lol...

Btw, you still want eggs? When? I gotta do some changes very soon and dunno if eggs will be fertile or forthcoming for a bit afterwards... :/

Hey guys, I was wondering if 10 clear/infertile eggs out of an order of 24 is average for purchased eggs? If 5 extra were sent, but 4 busted during shipping?

That leaves us with 25 eggs
Then 10 are clear
leaving us 15

I have never sold eggs. What would those who have do in this situation? I have an idea of what my reaction would be, but I have never shipped. Would asking for a reshipment of the 10 with us paying shipping and handling be fair?

Is the ratio so poor due to it being so early in the year?

Hey guys! Thought I'd stop in, say hey..
Thursday will be day 7 on my shipped eggs. I started hand turning them after 2 1/2 days on the tilted egg turner (hand spinning). I have a better light now, so I may try to candle a few on day 7, see if I can tell how the air cells are doing. My other eggs are doing great..good development.
My hens have been laying like crazy.. it kills me to make these into omelets, but my incubators are full.

OMG, Ross! Sorry about the double yolker. That is so strange. We've never had a Double yolk from our flock.

@RavynFallen Was that you with the Smashed box from the PO or was that a box you shipped? I went back a few pages, but couldn't find the OP. Aren't priority shipments automatically insured for $100 or so? Did the person make a claim?

Hey guys, I was wondering if 10 clear/infertile eggs out of an order of 24 is acceptable? What if they sent 5 extra, but 4 busted during shipping?

As a buyer, of course, I lean towards looking at the 5extra covering the 4 that busted.

BUT I have never sold eggs. What would those who have do in this situation?

Sometimes shipping does so much damage, that the eggs don't develop. They are not viable, but not necessarily infertile. If your box had enough shock to break eggs, I'm betting there was enough shock to rupture (scramble) some yolks, too.

I'm going through the same thing, and have 7 viable now out of 18. (I'm on day 9).

Friday said what I was going to...lol

Gotcha. I hadn't thought of that. I thought clear meant infertile. Thanks! I'm glad he sent extras!
I'm starting to think one of our shipping centers around here is rough on fragile stuff. Maybe the same one Ravyn had problems with?
Well, all Dissappointments aside, we are still really excited about the hatch. We've been wanting blue australorps for a long time!
*hugs* to you too!
What are you hatching?

BTW, we have had our BA's, BLRW, and Rhodebars in pens for almost 3 weeks now, so we should be ready to ship if anyone is interested for the shipathon. The Rhode Island Reds aren't laying just yet.
So, feel free to drop us a line!

We also have a few mixed hens that turned out pretty neat. They are Welsummer/black australorp crosses and they look like BA's with bay colored eyes and they lay a good amount, but they lay a terracotta speckled egg like the welsummers did. It makes me wish we hadn't of gotten rid of our Wellie roos!

Here's a pic of the eggs(in the middle):

Yep, Friday covered it, lol... just no way to know for sure with shipped eggs, but I agree if they were that damaged it was probably shipping... also, if the any of those had full rolling air cells, I have never gotten those to ever develop so definitely shipping damamge...

I am in the same boat, lol... but better to incubate the shipped ones... at least your hens can wait since you'll have them later... :gig

:hugs back... missed ya, my friend... :D

Those were Call eggs shipped to me... since the eggs weren't all smashed, no... and priority is $50 insurance... I set them anyways, gonna see how they do... she sent me a lot of extras (like double the eggs) and will send more wen I have room... they were from TJChickens and she is awesome!!!

Clear in local eggs means infertile... shipped is a whole 'nother ballgame, hon... :)

Oh, and that was the Memphis PO hub... it's notoriously awful... :(

15 out of 24 ordered doesn't seem bad for shipped eggs. I've never been on either end of shipped eggs, so really can't offer an educated opinion. It will be nice to see what your actual hatch rate is.
