She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Yep, Friday covered it, lol... just no way to know for sure with shipped eggs, but I agree if they were that damaged it was probably shipping... also, if the any of those had full rolling air cells, I have never gotten those to ever develop so definitely shipping damamge...
I am in the same boat, lol... but better to incubate the shipped ones... at least your hens can wait since you'll have them later...

Those were Call eggs shipped to me... since the eggs weren't all smashed, no... and priority is $50 insurance... I set them anyways, gonna see how they do... she sent me a lot of extras (like double the eggs) and will send more wen I have room... they were from TJChickens and she is awesome!!!
Clear in local eggs means infertile... shipped is a whole 'nother ballgame, hon...

Oh, and that was the Memphis PO hub... it's notoriously awful...

Got it!

I just love you guys. I learn something every time I am here--usually more than one thing!

I almost have the garden set up and the pens are all built. I still have to build two runs for our outdoor brooders and have a few other things going on, it's been such a busy spring! I really don't see how so many people hold down full time jobs and can manage hours a day on social media. I guess I'm slow in more ways than one.

Hopefully I'll be around more in the near future.

Then you guys will have to put up with me all over again.

15 out of 24 ordered doesn't seem bad for shipped eggs. I've never been on either end of shipped eggs, so really can't offer an educated opinion. It will be nice to see what your actual hatch rate is.

What she said!

Yep, I can't wait, either. :D

How's your garden this year? We started a SQFT garden and after building the beds(cake) and ordering the dirt(expensive), hubbs threw his back out and spent almost 3 weeks on the floor. Well, I say threw it out. . . his hip was dislocated, shoulder was 2 inches out of place and two vertebra were twisted almost 360 degrees. Poor guy! Dr said he let it go way too long. Soldiers can be so stubborn sometimes.

But that left me with eight 4x8 beds and 2 6x12 beds to fill.

It's the weirdest thing, too, now MY shoulder is going out! lol The chiropractor just loves us right now.

I am soooo ready for that lasagna garden method to be in full swing. lol

Gotcha. I hadn't thought of that. I thought clear meant infertile. Thanks! I'm glad he sent extras!
I'm starting to think one of our shipping centers around here is rough on fragile stuff. Maybe the same one Ravyn had problems with?
Well, all Dissappointments aside, we are still really excited about the hatch. We've been wanting blue australorps for a long time!
*hugs* to you too!
What are you hatching?
Russian Orloff and Blue Wheaten Ameraucana. Down to 5 BWA out of the 13 she sent.

By the way, shipped eggs have a higher rate of dying during lockdown, too. So don't count your chickens before they are hatched!

Your gardens sound great!

I had big plans for lasagna or BTE gardening, but could not get enough bio matter to cover the garden with more than an inch or two. So it looks like I'm going to let the big sections lie fallow this year, and keep adding any organic matter that I can find. I can harvest my comfrey this year, and will have grass clippings, chicken manure and straw. Will need to get on the list for some wood chips from a tree company.

OMG, Ross!  Sorry about the double yolker.  That is so strange.  We've never had a Double yolk from our flock.

:hugs

@RavynFallen
Was that you with the Smashed box from the PO or was that a box you shipped?  I went back a few pages, but couldn't find the OP.  Aren't priority shipments automatically insured for $100 or so?  Did the person make a claim?

ETA: :hugs

:frow that egg came from here and its blown me away! I never cracked one that was double and i mightve kept those hens if i knew they threw doubles because thats the only parta the egg i like

We have a problem. Im thinkn my hatch is thru, got 38/49 for 77 1/2%. But. Like six of my hatchers have fused toes :/ some get around pretty well some dont, i was thinkn id try chick shoes. What about as adults? How did it happen?

I almost want to hear that i screwd up vs genetics, but i went thru the same thought pattern. Breeder hasnt ever seen it, but these are super rare, rather interbred, and some of the layers mayve been pretty young.

That could be it, Turk... are the pures they started with come from same flock?

This is one of the reasons they say not to breed brother and sister... breeding back to father or mother is better as 50% of their DNA is different while full sisters and brothers have the same exact...

Im pretty sure theyre from diff flocks because she has birds from GFF and Ewe Crazy. I misunderstood, shes had one isbar who hatched like this. Shes gna bring her good thermo here n check my bators temp tumro when she comes to get the chicks... Aside from that, i guess only time will tell. Thank you for sharing your expertise!
