She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

If you can safely, yes... and the sooner the better... if you do it, best to do it with the first few days of hatching or first day... once adults, it's just messier, plus their transition at getting comfortable with the change is longer...

I told the breeder, and we agree and itll happen tumro while shes here to pick up chicks. I'll let ya know how it goes

Ready to :hit ?? The black and white EE hen you like that's in with my BCM decided to go into a hard molt so wasn't laying when I sent you eggs... the only daughter of hers we kept started laying today...

That's an awesome looking egg!

Awesome.  What are you raising(besides a beautiful daughter)?  And thanks again for the compliment, all we've done so far is keep them alive. lol  How many eggs would you be looking for?

I have EE'S, an OE, BCM's, Buff Orps and Black Austrlorps. Roosters are both BCM's. So I've got potential OE chicks in the bators and BCM's.
I'd love to get a dozen from you..not sure if that's possible. If not, whatever you could send :) I'm not sure if you're interested in any BCM or OE chicks. I can pay for the eggs too :)

You're buying eggs to set when you have beauties like that in your back yard?  I'll have room in my incubator in a couple of weeks...full right now :D

Yes.. I only have 2 BCM hens. The lady I got them from last year no longer sells chicks, I'm bummed I only ended up with 2 hens. I'm having a hard time finding eggs as dark as these. I also want to get some new bloodlines since my roosters and hens came from the same place.
My plan is to replace all my EE's with Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas, the BLRW'S will replace the Buff Orps and Australorps..get some more BCM'S and a few White Leghorns. This changeover will probably be next spring, I'd like to get the chicks this spring and grow them out before replacing my current hens. I'm going to have to wait until my new chicks are laying. I'll keep a few potential OE chicks from this hatch too. I want to do all this and keep my final number of birds to around 35. That's the best chicken math I can do! Lol
I'd be happy to send you eggs WH :) just let me know what you'd like and when.

Sounds great! I have about 130 layers right now, I'm parting with my current fancy EE and olive eggers (many with feathered feet) and hatching out the next generation. I also have a small breeding flock of turkeys and raise a few dozen for market.

I currently have my cabinet loaded with about 250 eggs and will be filling it this weekend. I have staggered hatches starting next week, many are chickens to replace my laying flock of red sex links. Included in the incubator are some excellent #6 Marans so they should start laying this fall and if I keep a quality rooster we can swap eggs next spring if you still need fresh Marans stock. I'll also have Ameraucana and Araucana.

I sent you a pm. My last batch of shipped silkie eggs and my last 5 batches of my own eggs were incubated at 45-55% humidity. I know those numbers seem extremely high, but for me, my aircells have grown spot on and my hatch rates have been excellent.
Are you serious??? That is just beyond wrong!!

So sorry. But I wanted to say that is an awesome pic.
You and Ravyn had similar comments on the float test. Just wanted to add my two cents...I think the float test is good for newbies. During my first couple hatches I was not very experienced with candling, especially past "lockdown". And not familiar with seeing draw down, and movement along the membrane. So I was able to find a live egg, past due by doing the test. But I agree now. I have not done float testing since my second hatch. But I think it can't really hurt a new hatcher to try it, along with lots of practice at candling!

That is such fantastic news!
I had to quote these pics because they are just so adorable!! I absolutely love them!!
You can run dry for an extra 24 hours if air cells have not grown much since day 14. I've had good luck doing this!

Ruby, I'd love to see some pics of your d'uccle babies!! And I agree on the float test. Folks need to realize it can prove a chick is alive, but not necessarily prove that its dead too!
Oh, and thanks about my little cuties.

Gotcha. I hadn't thought of that. I thought clear meant infertile. Thanks! I'm glad he sent extras!
I'm starting to think one of our shipping centers around here is rough on fragile stuff. Maybe the same one Ravyn had problems with?
Well, all Dissappointments aside, we are still really excited about the hatch. We've been wanting blue australorps for a long time!
*hugs* to you too!
What are you hatching?

CHOOKS!

Curious about those toes... keep us posted.

What did you get from Foley? I got a couple SLW and this is one of my first hatchlings.

Good luck, hon!

Thanks... wasn't gonna keep her, but I think OH will want to now...

I think that egg is an awesome color! She could probably pick her home, if you decide not to keep her!

I am having a hard time getting my humidity up in my Brinsea! day one of lockdown , I cut sponges and put them in the water wells and filled them up. i thought that would get it higher, but it says my humidity level is only 35%? Is it going to hurt my babies to when i get back in there and do something?

Is that the bator's hygrometer or your own?
