She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

So I has to....I candled and it looks like I have one internal pip but it's not making any noise. And the other 4 died! !

. I don't know what happened. So I eggtopsied the 4 and well...let's just says they all that same look of double yolk with black stuff. So I doubt it was a twin. I think it was bacteria. From where...not sure. Also it looked like they didn't loose enough fluid. So that shame on me. Fingers crossed for my sole surviving duckling!! Garrett is going to call it Mighty. Lol!

Oh dangit! I'm sorry dear.

Good luck for Mighty

If you are running your heater at all, your indoor humidity is probably pretty low this time of year.  A lot of people with Octagons need to put a double layer of paper towels across the whole bottom of the bator - from one side, dipping in both wells, to the other side.  The paper towels (some people use felt or other fabric) acts as a wick and releases the humidity better.  It makes clean-up easier, too!

I just did exactly that. Used some construction paper and put ends in the water wells. I cut up sponges too and put them on the tray

On the last one.

I know it isn't chicken, but does anyone have any idea what kind of bird this might be? It was a good size bird. Appeared to me to have juvenile feathers, still fluffy on the tail and underbelly. I'd say it was close to a foot long.

Candled the shipped eggs.. not good. I think I have a few blood rings, a few clear.. no good veining on any of them and they all have loose, wonky-shaped air cells. I don't know what I could have done differently. I let them rest well over 24hrs, I incubated without turning for 2.5 days and then hand turned them. I'm going to recheck them all again in a few days and ditch the blood rings and clears.

Maybe a young pheasant, feathers look like the cape on my wall. I don't think a juvy grouse would be that big.
