Ruby: thanks! But, I was not the one doing the shooting, FYI.![]()
As long as it can get oxygen, that's a great idea to follow the other correct pip!! I actually waited longer then 24 hrs. Because I don't know exactly when the pip happened, I woke up to it. So it was about 26 hrs from when I noticed it. I started by making an artificial zip line. My chick could not push out at all. So I ended up taking half the egg off and letting him rest. Then just sliding him out of the egg. His umbilical cord was stuck to the shell. After a couple hours, I just cut it. Good luck!!
I will keep a close eye on it we have 3 more pips, so a total of 5 so far.
So....day 10 candle is not good....I wonder if I should have left them in the auto turner. I had 5 eggs that looked viable on day 7 candle... I check again today and out of those 5 only 1 looks good!!! I am so angry right now. It better hatch as a hen...or I am going to be p***ed! (Crested cream legbar)

I think if you told us what you can't do it would be a very short list . it's always hot when you weld .If your getting a lot of splatter you are either to hot or to fast slow down and watch the puddle make it swirl watch the edge of the puddle .if your welding vertical use a long to short arc. this might not make sense but do it with your wrist strike your arc quickly move upward making a long arc that doesn't deposit much metal and come back down to the puddle. your wrist movement should be about one half inch. this lets the puddle solidify and not run move just the wrist. you can also run down from top to bottom but the weld is not as strong. 97 here today .here it is mid night and I finished all I could do at 11:30.
SC, would smack the crap out of me if I saw how I have to take care of these babies! They imprint on you and it's no joke!! They cry for me and if I leave the lid off (I had to make a lid out of scrap wood and hardware cloth for the brooder because they flew out at 5 days old) they fly over to the couch! Then they like to fly on my sons heads'. And they like to snuggle up in my hair and go to sleep. Every night they cry their heads off until I literally put them to bed. I gave them one of the baby's fleece blankets. I take them and wrap them up tight in the blanket and they go to sleep for the night and don't come out until they hear me making coffee in the morning. I feel bad. They are not like chicken chicks. They need a mother!

You are not unique in that. The 2 chicken chicks we hatched last time would cry if we both left the room until they about 3 weeks old, by which time they were spending all day with the flock.
