She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

That an't right I'd call somebody and give them a piece of my mind . But I just can't spare any :hit :hugs

The purchased eggs surprised me. CCL, Ameraucana, Polish...the parents looked really nice but I guess the Roos are shooting blanks.

It figures my last set of the year would be the worst. It's almost not worth running the cabinet incubator for 8 eggs. Maybe I do need a Brinsea 20 for those small sets.

Here is a short video of Big Mama, my BBB hen, meeting Mona, the rescued BBW hen, through the fence. Turkeys have a huge range of vocalizations and I've never heard these before. The four young bronze turkeys were accepted into the flock without a word, so this was a dominant hen debate.
We had turkeys do this when I was a kid. It is there way to establish their pecking order vocally.
Everyone looks good in bars! Especially after many drinks! :plbb
Hahahhahahaha! !!:lau yes we do!!!

Mine too!!!! I only have that one surviving egg out of 13. I paid a good penny for them too. Makes me sad.

Baby pics of my May 19 and June 4 chickens (just a few of them). There are two crosses in play: my 2 EE roosters crossed with my 2 EE hens, and my 2 EE roosters crossed with red sex link hens.

I hope these three are all pullets
the black headed bird has the stance of a cockerel, but no comb color. Photos don't do justice to these feathers. I hope it's a hen as this one is a keeper.

A very feather footed pullet but I don't like her body, it's very compact for her legs. I'll let her grow and see how she develops. The wheaten Amearaucana type is a nice bird.

This is an example of the pullet type I am working toward. Broad, deep, wide body, nice color, feathered shanks. The pullet to her left is also very pretty, with her Brahma blood she may end up as the foundation of my meaty strain.

I love the pattern on this bird. The photo does not do her justice.

He's crowing. He's a good little roo, if I grab one of the birds in the pen and it cries out he will run over and look to see what is happening.
Here is a poor photo of my barred, slate shanked EE pullet.

Very pretty birds. I also have an EE Roo who will eventually meet my red sex links, so I guess I can see what they might look like!

I really like your black one in the 2nd photo and also the one that you say you are working toward. Well, they are all so pretty.

that really sucks.

Hahahhahahaha! !!!!! :lau :gig Same here....I wonder because they were shipped eggs. My last hatch I purchased locally.
I bet when you crack them open you'll find a couple red rings. With shipped eggs they'll start to develop but if the chalazae is not strong enough after shipping they get the red ring and die. It's not your typical red ring. It's hard to explain but I read it in an article on shipped eggs.
Oh my am I glad the weekend is almost over. I look forward to going back to work for some R&R. Tractor has repair plates bolted in. The welder is just not up to the job. I still have to weld up the transaxle bracket and muffler, but the heavy work is done for now. I used a lot of Locktite Red to be sure those nuts don't come loose. If a bigger welder suddenly appears on my doorstep, I will go back and weld up the repair plates. The frame rails were hardened steel, and some of the holes had to go through 1/8" hardened, 3/32" hardened, then the 1/8" mild steel repair plates. Drilling the repair plates was like drilling through a warm stick of butter compared to the frame. It got dark before I got a test ride in, and until I tie down the neutral safety switch wires to the transaxle bracket I really don't want to start it up. Too many places for those wires to get broken or pinched... Gonna go drink about a quart of water, then candle my eggs that are due 8/5.
I would reply but it's all Greek to me!! I do love the pics of the birds though. They're beautiful!
Breach baby just hatched 20 minutes ago, very lively and chirping up a storm. Moving around well. It has a small red protrusion where the umbilical cord was attached. Will this shrink on its own. There is no blood or yolk.

Great job getting it out!! I had the same issue with the red protrusion. I did bacitracin for 2 days, like Amy mentioned.
girl you do long post I need to read the wazine bottle I think It says 5 6 and 10 wks. old and I would do that . Look it up on line I think I spelled it right. but like all chickens med it's dosed for a hundred chickens so you have to work out the dose they sell it at TSC the one chick alone is a EE supposed to be Ameraucanas at least that is what I ordered the flock as last year the eggs are a real pretty blue. the others are Silver Laced Wayndottes and BCMs not sure what the count on each one is. I just like to hatch eggs. like you and all the others on this thread :jumpy It was a good hatch today 75% of lock down 18 total out of 24
Ok thank you. There is a woman on the peafowl board that helps everybody convert the doses of medication for a single bird. If I can't figure it out I will ask her. I had a feeling that one was EE. I love the way they look as babies. Every time I see a baby like that I'm always asking! So I guess I know by now. Great job on the hatch!!

This was great. It's as if the new one is asking permission to come in and big momma is giving her all the rules and guidelines if she wants to be a part of her flock. In my head I was envisioning a Disney movie that would have the animals talking to each other. Lol!!

Welcome to the Dark side!!!

Summer shandy? Dare I ask what that is? Man behind the curtain. Pooh

Summer shandy is a delicious ice cream.
Pooh ripped off man behind the curtain from The Wizard of OZ

I've candled before. Nothing red about that. Red would have been marking air cells on all of them. I candled 6 out of curiosity. This is my first set from this flock, so I'm curious about fertility

How did you stop at 6??? How dark are the eggs? We need more details! Photos too!!...yeah I know...that will never happen!! I love Amy's response!!! Lol!!

I don't have any candling photos, but here are the eggs before they were set. Some are a good bit lighter than others, but seem to be getting darker as the pullets get older

It's a beer. And a mighty fine one at that.
Ice cream... silkie's watching.
Just remember this when I unveil the new

...you know I am just giving you crap. I like to try and help all animals even if they only live for a few days. Everyone and everything gets a chance in my eyes!

No, I'm not getting emotionally attached to something that will die in less than a week. You.ve been asking for it, so here it comes. The new, never before seen "South of the Border"
