In case you haven't noticed those are cats in that picture are you sure you hatched chickens and that wasn't a litter of cats in that Incubator.I just completed a hatch. 16 live chicks from 22 fertile eggs. 2 hatched but died ,four died before hatching. The first ones hatched on day 20, the rest the next couple of days. I discarded the last 4 at day 25. A friend gave me a used incubator, it has a fan, but the Styrofoam on the bottom was in rough shape, so I had to add a water reservoir. I bought an egg turner,. I am a meddler, I candled at 14 days and discarded 8 infertile eggs. I didn't really "lock down" When pipping started I had to watch LOL. I pulled chicks out when they were clear of the shell and partly dry. They are all mutts from my mixed flock , will be interesting to see how they feather out, and how many hens vs roos I get. Incubator is filled up again <G>

On a serious note there is a lot be said for hybrid vigor that was a good hatch speaking of grass I'd better go finish cutting mine .with this thread if you don't get on as much as you can they will run off and leave you in the dust. and won't even say goodbye.
Hi there!!Welcome to the thread and
. 16 is pretty good. I love the mixes and the anticipation of what they will look like. Most of mine are mixes. I lock down in the sense that I up my humidity and I don't touch....until they start hatching...lol Siince you are using a styro bator I have to ask, what do you run humidity at the first 17/18 days?![]()
You ran at 60% for the first 17 days and had 16 hatch? Wow.I try to keep it around 60%, it tends to vary a bit.

I see.It might have been a bit less than that, the bottom leaks, and it took a few days to accommodate that, I added a plastic "trough" I probably did not monitor the humidity as closely as I should have, but I did get it higher at hatching time. As I said, it varied a bit especially the first couple of weeks.. Bator is in the cellar so the humidity is up there anyway, never got below 45
