She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I started out with that self same incubator! How have you found the temp adjuster? I found I had to have it turned right down to get 37.5*c. The sticker thing on it was a waste of time. It was WAY wrong and out. Needless to say I cooked my first batch of eggs in it.

Will take a while to warm through with the cooler eggs in.

The temp adjuster I foun to be no where near calibrated. I cooked my last batch in this inc, so I am watching the digitalis an ignoring what the dial says

Dawwwww. ^.^

See, I have no tolerance for this type of behavior. I used to think it was normal until I witnessed my Welsummer(Fah Q) covering the girls. He was so gentle and they were so willing. I can't wait to see what comes of their chicks. All of our hens are Australorps, I have seen some pretty crosses from those genes. Today our LG decided to suddenly shoot up to 108 and then flipped the breaker on the outlet.

I'm never going to be able to regulate that temperature. Fixing to give up and get a hovabator. Amy keeps me going. lol
I want a Hovabator next spring too....lol

Hey Ruby, what's going on with the peachick now?

3 eggs made it to lockdown. All are alive. I have my one, wrong end pipper. I'm going to start assisting around 7am. That will be 24 hrs (unless he tries to hatch before then on his own). I don't think he will because I can't see his beak through the pip hole. Looks like his wing. But he's chirping. The 2nd egg has a big, beautiful pip and a chirping beak sticking out. And nothing from the 3rd egg yet. I only just started day 26 so they are still early. (28 day hatchers). I'm nervous and excited. Nervous about the assist but excited to watch the other hatch. I'll take lots of pics!! Thank you both for asking! :hugs

And there's a monkey Island in the southern part of the state. Same reason. no joke. They used to do experiments there, and now monkeys live on the island. Near Beaufort. Sometimes you can see them from the boat

I am going to have to take a cruise that direction and see if I see any monkeys. That is so cool.

The wonderful woman on the peafowl board just informed me she has surgery in the morning and won't be around to walk me through the assist. WV, I know you're on vaca. Amy, will you be around?

You can do it! I had to help my gold laced cochin because it was zipping the egg length wise and got stuck. I have faith if you research enough and follow step by step you will do great.

When it pips, the hole is in front of its beak. The hard shelled eggs tend to chip off nicely, but the membrane does not always tear. So when the poult rotates, its beak comes back in, and its back covers the pip hole. No big deal if it tears a new hole in the membrane while it zips...but if it fails to do so, it cannot breathe and once it has exhausted the air in the air cell, it dies.

I make a hole in the fat end of the egg. I don't worry about the pip hole or the zipping. If it zips, GREAT! If not, I'll peek through my hole and watch the blood vessels on the membrane. Once they are transparent, it's safe enough to go in and zip. I make the hole big enough to use a cotton swab to apply Bacitracin or even cosmetic grade mineral oil to the membrane between the poult and the air cell to prevent it from becoming too rubbery.

After the hatch, examine the membrane and shell and compare to a chicken egg. Large fowl eggs are rugged.

That sounds good to me!

Please look at the pics in Sally Sunshine's assisted hatching guide. . Look for the photos of the membranes, too early and ready.

But this would require taking time off from the he said/she said thread. I just don't know if I can do that. . .

Those Strong Ties screws are great, but you have to countersink that big old head if you don't want them sticking out.

I have a box of Swaneze Stainless Deck screws. Square drive, small heads, self tapping. I used them to install a composite porch deck but they work on just about anything. And they can still be removed from an outdoor install 10 years later. http://www.fastenersonly.com/g34.html

I finally let my residential contractor's license go this year. My brain is more suited for hard work now than my body. Though I did spend the holiday weekend replacing the sewer main through our stone cellar wall and a few clay tiles out. Diamond blade in the Sawzall makes cutting vitreous china drain tile as easy as cutting a loaf of bread.

show off like I said if it wasn't for four little things I've come to believe that you wear a blue suit and red cape with a big gold S on the front

Hooray for the pipper! I bet you are nervous, I'm nervous for you too. I'm sure you will do the best you can and I'll have my fingers crossed until they are all out!
