I didn't know a thing when I bought my first 4 pullets. I thought, "Oh, how cute. That would be fun". Luckily I fell in love with it, and went from those 4 pullets to what I have now in 6 years, but I learned a lot of lessons the hard way. BYC could have made things so much easier.I think it's great that you both have your ways. I'll admit I'm learning a lot from you both. I did a lot of research before getting chickens. It's amazing how many people buy chicks and then go, ok now. We were in RK one day months ago and these very young (I'd say 18-20) kids decided they wanted chicks. When to they had to buy 6 they were all, ok. Then they were like "what all do we need for them?" I wanted to hand them my business card and tell them to call me when they were done playing with the chicks.
Amy and I just got tired of hearing people say "If you open after lockdown, they will die", or "If you don't assist, you are a horrible person". Everyone does it a different way, and they can all be successful. No one person can tell everybody what will work for them all the time. I would not tell a styrobator user to be hands off, nor would Amy recommend "dry incubation" to a Brinsea user. We have learned on our own, and we have learned from each other. That's what's great about forums. No, Amy and I probably wouldn't be friends in real life, but bringing those two personalities together has created a greatly entertaining thread with some very knowledgeable regulars. I hate to admit, but I rarely read outside of this thread any more
