So I walked down to my neighbors house because he's away this weekend and I'm feeding the animals. The mom that was on the nest yesterday with three hatched chicks is off now. 3 eggs were left but they are cold, are they goners? No signs of pip that I could see. But one chick was laying on the ground crying, eyes closed and cold. Yup, about to say this. He's currently in my bra as I'm walking home. Legs look a little splayed. Electrolyte and heat, anything else????
I'm trying so hard to behave...

Thank you, everyone for the help. I walked all the way back down there to put the other eggs under the other broody and grab a chick for company but my neighbor had just got home. He had already stuck the remaining eggs under the other hen. And I told him about the chick. I told him that I would hang on to the chick till the morning and if he makes it, I'll bring him back to his mom. I asked about taking another chick for company and he declined. He said the chick probably won't make it. But the chick wakes up every 10 mins and cries and preen's himself, then falls back asleep. That's a good sign, right?

Good luck Ruby!

I came home from the weekend away, and I have a new layer. 9 lovely eggs, all in the nest box! Yeah! One little puddle in the coop, looks like they ate a soft one, it was where the other soft one I found was, several days ago.

If you lived closer I would buy eggs from you!! You better get an egg recipe book. I think I saw one on my pet chicken or the chicken chick. On Craigslist no one in my town has eggs listed, closest is about 45 mins away. Which would be good for me if I had good layers instead of silkies. Does anyone sell bantam eggs for consumption?

Well thank you! I've been making alot of things with eggs lately! A few pans of brownies too! I've seen bantam eggs for sale here, listed as eating or hatching, and even just for eating. Still don't know if my silkies have laid any. Have gotten a couple very light colored ones, but they both are getting streamer looking tails, but still no crowing. I'm still unsure if they are girls or not! Lol

What else could I do? I was pushing a stroller. I would have carried him in my hand if if I had one free. I thought about the bra hatcher and I figured it would get him warm the fastest! :gig

That neighbor of yours sounds like a real winner, so I'm sure you did what you had to do... I hope it makes it through the night for you, and continues to thrive for you. Even if you have to take it back over there...
