You know how I feel about giving things a chance..... to answer your question: it can go either way. Yes, it is still possible for them to finish by themselves after you start an assist, but it all depends on why they are stalled in the first place. If it was just because he wasn't ready (physiologically) then yes, he could finish the job. If he's over exhausted, not positioned right, just weak...chances are you'll have to finish the job if he's coming out alive. I'd keep checking periodically and see if you can finish the assist. If he's able he'll make progress in between your checks and you'll know to give him time and let him do his thing. If he's not making progress between your checking, then help when you can.
Hi WV,Hey Friday, wasn't it you that installed a roof vent fan thing? Or was that just to let light in? Sorry, I can't remember, but wondered how it was working out.
Hubby brought home an in-wall fan thing that he's thinking might be good to install in the coop. Its made to move air from one room to another, but its electric, dual-speed, doesn't blow too hard on low speed. Might work well in the top of a coop.
Hi WV,
My vents are passive so they let the heat out the roof but they don't pump it out. They are made of opaque white plastic (like a milk jug) so they let light in as well, which I really needed. I put a window in the wall as well.
Really wish I had a fan vent - I'd put it in the gable end to pump hot air out. When it's in the 90s it's still like an oven in there, but definitely better than before. The solar roof fan vents I was looking at were too pricey. Maybe I should look for something like you have?
Thanks for the idea!
K, I have a ?: I went in my bator to put a sponge in and thought I'd candle while I was in there. I'm assuming the air cell should not move when I tilt the egg? Also when I shine the light from top to bottom it casts a shadow from about the middle of the egg down and up when I shine it from the bottom. I'm terrible at candling and have no idea what I'm looking for other than veins which I didn't see. It's only day 5 though. Should I be worried?
Looks like it would work great! - as log as it is in an area not exposed to weather. (Might not be weatherproof.)
Here's what it looks like. He bought it from a guy that had bought it to use with a pellet stove, but he never installed it. Gave him $20 for it, said they were like $50ish, so that's a bit much for a coop, but I'm ok with $20 haha. Its like 8" round. Maybe they come in different sizes. But I think it might just work.
