She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

their website says horses are the first Saturday of the month but they have auctions every Wednesday. I want to go but now our girls are back in school I don't know if I should chance it. Its about 20 min away and the auction starts at 230 which would leave me about 40 min before I would have to leave to make the bus stop at 330. I would only be going for ducks or chickens and it says they are for sale starting at 215. So do they not auction them?

auctions rarely start on time .take the girls out early they will love the auction. it should be a good size this time of year people wanting to unload before winter.

You know those CB I mentioned earlier? Well, here is one that I don't want to get rid of. He's a Black Australorp, and he's birchen! I've seen the man's set up who hatched him and I don't think he could be a cross, but I've never seen another roo like him. If I had room, I'd keep him and breed him--with what, I'm not sure. I've searched birchen Australorp for ages and haven't found anything like him. He kind of looks like a Birchen Marans, but that breeder didn't have any Marans that color. I hate to see a bird this pretty end up in a stew pot so soon. Our BLRW are getting pretty big. :) We have a scissor beak pullet. I found a great paper on the genetics behind it; interesting read: http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0107050
He's very handsome!
Got the coop 90% done. Ordered the trim & soffits today and should be at the store by Friday. Got the exterior & interior walls done. Next is to seal the walls & floors, build the nesting boxes & roosts, figure out how to lay it all out and get the poop door. I want to put it on a timer. Oh and cant forget the fencing for the run.

Nice! Wish we had gotten that far this weekend. Darn rain...

I really, really want to go to an auction. But I've heard mixed things about them. My neighbor goes all the time and comes home with something to throw into his mix (that right there kinda scares me). But he did pick up 3 of the sweetest silkies I've ever met in my life. They run to me when they see me coming and jump right up on the side of the baby carriage. But I've heard a lot of people don't treat the animals so good and you end up feeling bad for all of them. So I don't know if I should go or not.
Mushroom hunting? Should I ask?
Sounds so good! I love pickles!!
Lovely!! Looks awesome!!

Thats one reason I haven't gone yet. Like going to the animal shelter and just looking.
Yes I love mushrooms. Gives me a reason to get some exercise after being indoors all winter. And I am surprised SC didn't comment to that lol.
Pickles are the best. Especially when you can your own. Its a lot of work but if you do it right they are better than store bought.

My homie. *fist bump*

Fall is the best time to hunt in Georgia.  Today we found a dozen HUGE Chanterelles in the woods behind our house.  My daughter picked them and fed them to the bachelors. There were probably hundreds of visible mushies back there. Dozens of russula, some enormous bolatus, all kinds of coral fungi, and even some slime molds.  If I wasn't so preoccupied with the chickens and the chirruns, I would have taken so many pics.

What do you hunt?

I hunt spring & summer. Mostly just morels, pheasant backs and I found my first set of oysters this year. I got a mushroom id book & a edible wild plants book. Not only do I hunt mushrooms but also plants. I am blessed to have a patch of ramps (wild leeks) on our property literally 30 feet from the house.

Rain's done...get to building.  It don't count as working on Sunday when you're enjoying your hobby.

Drizzled all day yesterday, enough to screw up my plans. Now its starting to rain harder...

We've looked for morels before (mollymoochers 'round these parts lol) but mushrooms scare me because of so many being poisonous. I want to look for some ginseng this year.

Very nice!! Please come over and do mine next?? :D ;)
Love wild 'shrooms... and being able to carry here, lol... TN's laws are the least strict on owning/carrying/using I think... and prolly won't change anytime soon either... when our neighbors(OH's cousin, unfortunately) dogs got out and slaughtered our entire grow out pen, Sheriff point blank told me we can protect our property... PERIOD... :D

HA it has taken 6 months to get this far! Between building it in the barn, clearing trees, trying to level the spot, pulling it out of the barn (which was NOT easy), placing it and finishing it when its not raining and having the time is the biggest obstaclen

Get a good mushroom book. It will tell you what to look for to properly id them. Helps if you can find a good local with experience for verification. They are delicious, and expensive to buy instore.
