Still air

Still air needs to be higher then 99.5. I think it's 101-102. So 101.5 would be optimal.

One absolutely MUST try cucumber is Suyo Long.  It's an open pollinated variety, grows about 12" long, tender skin, never bitter.  I've not made pickles with it, but am convinced that it'd be a fantastic pickler if used young.  http://cdn1.johnnyseeds.com/images/Product/large/333G.jpg

Ohhh, I will try those! Thanks!

I think it was probably a little high last time. I think it was 101.5 - 102 , that might be why i had zero hatch. Maybe try for more of a 100.5-101 this time.

That sounds good. Unfortunately, hatching is a lot of trial and error, till you figure out what's right for each batch. Then the weather changes, or the species of eggs change and you're back to trial and error again. I guess many years of hatching is in order!

stink, just like a outhouse, poop and powder LOL

hmmmm really, if I remember correctly when I was in MD the other weekend I was called a redneck several times.

First time for everything.... was very weird... The ummm "croud" next to us in the campground thought we turned them in for being obnoxious in many ways, throwing trash in the woods and peeing right at us, cant give more detailsj, anyways they weren't smart enough to figure out the camp host was in front of them! DOH

oh and... I have a busy day though, if I can catch up that is! We didnt get near as much done on the house this weekend so its push this week.

If you wanna get to know MD'ers, come to the western side of the bay; those eastern shore types are definitely a 'different breed of cat'. Sounds like you'd fit right in in Frederick Co.

Sally Sunshine here in Perry Co., Alabama eggs are selling in the grocery store for 5.+ and byc people are selling eggs for 3.+
I found cage free brown eggs here at Walmrt for 3.47. I sell mine for 3.50.
Wow!!! Talk about arrogance...maybe I should join the group....lol I've been 6 days tonight, w/o a cig or using the e-cig. (Determined to kick the habit. Part of me wants to smoke, my lungs are protesting though...lol) So, it would make a nice visit I'm sure....lol
I'd be surprised. I am dumbfounded they even get half hatches with humidity that high.
Good luck!

I have had a lot of family that quit cold turkey and stuck it out.

Bacon bloody?
I'm glad that ended well.

Agreed. I prefer his majesty

I officially set my eggs!! And I have 4 eggs that look really healthy around day 12. I read somewhere that there are certain days you should not candle. I believe it was days 11-13 or around there. I can't remember for the life of me where it was that I read it. It's killing me. Anyone ever heard of certain days not being good for candling?
We are still on the same schedule right? I set 7 SLW eggs under that broody I talked about last week. Tried to break her in cool water 3 times with no success, so I'm putting her to work.

Thanks everybody. 2 of the 3 have died. The other is hanging in there. The only light in the room was a small night light, and it looks like they clamored to that corner and trampled the smallest ones. The Japs. Lost 4 of the 5 of them. That sucks!
I dont know how low the temp got. Maybe 65. Nor how long the light bulb was out. I was gone less than 48 hours. We haven't turned on any heat in the house yet, its just starting to cool down. Was about 55 last night, but I'm sure it didn't get that low inside the house.
I'm sorry WV.

I lost one of my Marans yesterday in the outdoor brooder. Not sure why yet. It was a pullet of course.

The rest of them look healthy and happy so far.

I missed something, what was the question? If Sally is a yankee, it's awful down here

Yeah, the SC kinda goes right along with it, doesn't it?
Another member on this thread, sidewing, got what look to be some good BCM chicks several weeks ago. I've had fun posting pics of my good Ams, but when he shows up this afternoon I'm going to post pics of some badly bred BCM chicks so he can see the difference. If you know your birds, feel free to comment on them. I know they are off, and you won't hurt my feelings

Did some mushroom hunting in CO on a vacation in my 20s. That was an interesting weekend
Let's see those pics SC.

I lost one of the Marans pullets this weekend. Not sure why. I put them in the outdoor brooder and a day later she was just gone. The others are scratching and look healthy.

Mushroom hunting.

Hate to hear that about the pullet. I always liked the mushroom hunting better than licking the stamps. The hills on the roller coaster weren't quite as severe...

Ok, here's a few pics to make you feel better about your birds.

4 cockerels, three pullets. Three in front are all cockerels, overly colored one on the back row is as well. The one in the center that is very dark came from one of the older Davis hens. Keeping an eye on that one. He started with the more penguin look, and is staying black so far. Curious to see how his color turns out, but looks like the same comb fault will carry

The ones that are almost totally black were penguin chicks. The overly colored and mossy ones were the very dark chicks. Exactly what Don said would happen with the dark chicks

This picture is blurry, but I postd it to show the extreme mossiness , overly colored breast, and shafting. Same comb fault as well

Feet feathers are very nice, but color not looking so good. Again, the black cockerel in this pic could be interesting

Another blurry pic, but shows the extreme shafting on the breast

I have a great trade for you in the spring
