I saw this extremely, ridiculously bright LED light on the counter at the gas station tonight...and you all know what I was thinking!! I've had a hard time seeing in these new eggs because the shells are thick!! So I quickly shined this bad boy over them tonight, while I was turning and I have nice development in 10/12 eggs!!! So I can go to bed on a happy note!
These are my Silkies. Sorry it took me so long to post them, ive been trying for the last hour. They all turned out white but when they were younger 3 of them were darker.
Your silkies look exactly like mine. We have established that I am horrible at sexing silkies, but I can't help but venture a guess...
The bottom picture I feel fairly strongly is a girl on the left and boy on the right. In the picture on top, the one in the center looks like the same girl, the one just to the right of her looks pretty girly, and the rest look like boys
So, I just had the most awesome visitor to our humble chicken infested place... gotta say I am very glad I stumbled across this thread and got to meet him...
Thank you very much, @BYC910 , it was a pleasure to meet you and you're always welcome at our place!!
I'll have to try this when mine start laying, don't want too many roo's. I don't have the heart to process them and most people don't want roo's, even free 1's
Just throw an old rooster, a SQ rooster, and a cocky 3 year old that likes to bite in a pen with a bunch of cackling hens and you would get a pretty good idea
Na, don't think you missed as much as I have. I'm 753 pages behind on here. Just found y'all. Looks like a fun page. Is it okay if I tag along in the mischief making?

No, I have too many to tell, but there are some eggs that are distinct to certain hens. When I had some of those, I'd set them beside each other and keep the ones that were less pointy, the ones that had a wider circumference at the middle than the others. It's a theory that I'm putting to the test, and it's increased my pullet ratio from 40 to 60%. Will continue doing so, until I disprove it, in spite of the nay sayers who say there's no need to experiment. There's always room for a good experiment. Keeps life interesting. You'd ought to see the 22# hybrid Red Kuri/buttercup squash I grew! It was 22# massive looked like a orange buttercup with green stripes.
That is wonderful! Glad you had that opportunity. That's my kinda people too..... No one ever comes up here though...of course, I don't blame them.....
Silkies are bantams. Some are just larger than others. Same as any bantam . . some are larger bantams. Some are pretty small. Had a hatch a while ago with silkies. One was a buff, so tiny! Her siblings were the normal size bantam. There are breeders that will breed for the smaller size.
Well, today I got to feel like sc a little. lol Woke up to chirping(permeated my dreams), left to work, came back and had 4 babies out. lol Up to six now. Sending good hatchy vibes your way:
Oh speaking of meeting people. I am only close enough to SC and gachooks. But I think they are both a good 3 to 4 hour drive away. So yeah that sucks.....no meeting anyone on here for me. Lol!!!
Oh speaking of meeting people. I am only close enough to that AH SC and gachooks. But I think they are both a good 3 to 4 hour drive away so thank God.....no meeting anyone on here for me. Lol!!!
Yea for powerful flashlight! Even though duck eggs are white they are really thick. Congrats on the awesome development.
I wondered about that. All my duck eggs seem to be ovals so not really a pointed end.
Dont be scared of the incubator! I tried to hatch my first set of duck eggs. Out of 36 eggs I had ZERO hatch. DH convinced me to try again. So tonight starts day 7. Life is all about learning!
I got some blue Indian runners to hopefully cross with my cayugas, I'm going to incubate those when they happen, but I just got them as babes this summer, so I wait for eggs.
