She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

That sounds like me... except I hide them from myself...

I'm watching these 2 eggs like a flockin haybale...

How are your pippers doing?

yuckyuck.gif
clever. I had to read it a second time!
Welcome to the thread! Have you popped her spurs? I have seen it done on cock birds before. Makes them much less dangerous/sharp/thick.

Welcome to the thread!

We should have a Ut BYC meeting in the spring Cynthia.

How many do you have? Have you posted pics here? It seems like you have.

Good find!
I would love to meet some of the local BYCers.

Thank you and nice seeing you as well!
My bator is a LG (little giant 9200) still air with an automatic turner. My broodies just do such a great job, exception going to the cuckoo marans hen with the spurs...she tries but fails from poking the eggs

, but the speckled susex girls and my faverole that disappeared were great! The susex girls each hatched two batches...no worries on my end, lol. BUT, I'd like to have more control on what hatches and when, hence the scary incubator.

Well, you came to the right place, my friend...

@AmyLynn2374 is the undisputed Champion LG 9200 Hatching Master... she can give you great tips to get that bator to work better than I've seen anyone else do... she even got a 100% hatch from one before...
Get some eggs ready and ask for her advice, you'll have a batch of fuzzy butts in no time...

LOL Thanks.

I've got my phone in constant contact with BYC, I will absorb as much info as I possibly can and promise to write down anything I think I won't remember...then my five kids will probably help me lose the paper, I'd better make duplicates on that note.
Any time you want my help or an idea of how I do it, just fly me a pm and I wil help!

Na, don't think you missed as much as I have. I'm 753 pages behind on here. Just found y'all. Looks like a fun page. Is it okay if I tag along in the mischief making?

Of course you can welcome to the thread.

Hey SC, I found this and thought of you....

That is soooo perfect for him!

That is so awesome!! I'm so jealous!!! (He's one of my favs....shhhh).
I love experimenting with incubation!! That's the great thing about it. Each batch you can do a little differently and make comparisons.
I would definitely come visit if you weren't so stinking far!!!
Is it only in Europe that they are LF too?
This thread should plan a meet up someday! I would definitely go!!
Congrats on the chicks!!
yesss.gif
awesome! More pics when you can, please!!
I LOVE it!! Perfect for him!!
Hey you're closer to me than anyone else I know on here!!! lol It's just 6 hours!!! lol

I would love to meet more BYC people, especially BYC910. I've only met the gal I got my last eggs from, and I didn't know beforehand that she was a BYC person. I've talked to a few on the phone though, and text with several! Its cool to get to know some of these folks.
Oh and Amy and Ruby are coming to my camp someday!!
big_smile.png

I think you just insulted all the women with one statement!...
lol.png

And I get to pic the hen?... http://teespring.com/mogee#pid=2&cid=2397&sid=front
Yup!! But my boy has to be with me...he's still attached. lol

I have a good sized lawn, perhaps 1 - 1.5 acres, am surrounded by trees on 3 sides. The chicken yard is backed up to the woods that border the neighbor's property line. We cleared to the line on that side, b/c the trees were encroaching on our buildings. A lot of dead wood in those trees, all on the neighbor's property, so we're taking that stuff down as we're able. He's happy to have us cutting the trash out. I intend to manage it (with his permission) as I would if it was my own: let the smaller trees grow up, favoring hardwood. But, the hawks wait till my birds go behind the garden to an area that is sheltered from our sight. Then, they pounce on any hapless bird that happens to go there. I've twice caught hawk ripping 2 of my birds to shreds in a 50' area.
The only time I use nail polish is to try to glue a split nail together. I'm not much of a lace and satin type of gal! Much more at home with my muck boots and a dung fork.

When I discovered BYC, I was totally amazed. It was like finding out for the first time that there are actually women out there who are like me! I get so bored with the typical conversations in a gaggle of women. Family stuff, yeah, that I can enjoy. But all of the other social frippery... I just don't get it! Women gotta work smarter to accomplish the same tasks b/c of our decreased stature and muscle mass. I'm pretty proud of some of the hulking rocks I've hauled out of the ground.

I was given a pedicure gift certificate once, boy I laughed and laughed, and it was from someone who should have known me better! I run barefoot and then in boots more than not, like I give a flyin hoot what my feet look like! I am just lucky I still have all my toes

Ya'll know it would have to be a chicken BBQ. not hot dogs burgers or pork . although if we have it at Walnuthills new place we could eat some of her home made hot dogs I'd be ok with that .
droolin.gif

I'd make a pit and do a whole hog...and a bunch of wings...and maybe a brisket...and of course some sausage.

Ok, been busy this morning. Didn't have time to give you guys the lockdown stats. Amy, go ahead and put the floats in storage until the spring...
The good news is, only 1 clear out of 24. The bad news is air cells are all over the place. I have 16 of the huge, dark Davis eggs that all have developed, but I can't tell to what stage. The air cells are about 2/3 of what I normally expect to see at this point, so I'm afraid I'm going to have a bunch of chicks that develop and never pip. I hope I'm wrong, and always hope for the best, but the air cells are small. Almost completely round and even with the top of the egg, not drawn down. I've incubated at 28-30%, and I refuse to go lower. I may have to try sanding eggs at some point, but it shouldn't be that hard. I may go the totally opposite direction and follow the article Ruby posted. Incubate at 55% and hope that the humid air will pull the moisture out of the egg through osmosis
roll.png

The lighter, young hen eggs look like the air cells are too large. Good development on the chicks, but I'm hoping they aren't sticky chicks, or get shrink wrapped. This will be a good experiment to see which ones hatch and which ones don't, but I don't think I will get anywhere near 75% of 23. If I were judging by air cells only, I would say 8 or 9. I may be pleasantly surprised, but all I can do now is wait and

That is so wonderful to hear. You know I got the idea for this thread because SC and I always ended up on the same thread and almost always had opposing view points not to mention opposite end of the line bators. I took the suggestion of doing a thread together to share our differences to him and he agreed to participate. Sure I could have started a differences thread without him, but I think we all know it would be a totally different animal w/o his (sometime annoying) personality. And w/o you guys having came and stuck around, we'd just be arguing with ourselfs and probably wouldn't even be speaking at this point. lol So thank you for the thanks, but it's all of us together that make this what I think is an awesome thread.

I'm in that boat with you guys. Lost 29 eggs in the last month!! It's just crazy! But we can't give up!
hugs.gif

I think next fall would be perfect for us to take a road trip down there!! I just need the baby to be done nursing, so I can take a break for a few days!

How are your current eggs doing?
Fall is a great time here. I just can't believe its already September!

That is soooo perfect for him!

Ain't it though? LOL
Kids are welcome too, of course! I've got closets we can lock them in... teasing! All the kids love it out there. Plenty to keep them busy.

I'm not big on sausage (but I'd try yours for sure, cause it looks soooo good), but brisket definitely gets my attention!

Well, Tate is doing his part, so that's great! Those must be some really solid shells..... Maybe they will just need an extra day...

I'm still hoping for the best with you. Sometimes being pessimistic works out better anyway.
