She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Eh, only have clears now cuz of the molt... can't be comfortable for the girls to have a guy jump on their blood/pin feathers... saw a hen squat and submit and as soon as he hopped on she screeched and ran full speed out from under him, lol... must be like slapping a sunburn...

Gotta get my pens covered, Jim said a hawk swooped into the Am pen today... but it almost decapitated itself going through some wood squares the juvies hang out in, lol...

Was great to meet Ben today too... maybe one day he'll wave to me...

I have an awful feeling that I have made Loretta sick, after her bath yesterday. When I let the girls out this afternoon, she wasn't herself, she looked huddled and wasn't grazing. When I put them back in the coop I picked her up and put her in and I put the heat lamp on in there. I checked her earlier and she was under the lamp. I checked again a little while ago and she had moved away from the lamp. I think she may have got chilled. I did use the dryer on her yesterday. But she was still a bit damp when she went out. It was still in the mid 70s yesterday, but the temperature dropped to about 52 last night. I am pretty worried about her.

It might just be that she was already sick and the bath just aggravated it... so sorry, hon... just keep her warm, dry, quiet and make sure she is eating and drinking... what are her poos like?

I will have to check in the morning. My daughter arrived today too and she is sick, so wasn't out with the chickens as long today. I feel like I should be out there doing a coop vigil.

You can only do so much, hon... :hugs
Hope she gets better, but I don't want to throw blind suggestions at you trying to fix her... have you wormed them?

They were all wormed 6 weeks ago. I haven't seen any evidence of any parasites. I used wazine and 10 days later the safeguard.

Good, just checking the obvious first, lol... btw, if you use safeguard there is no need to use Wazine at all...
Did she feel any thinner than normal when you bathed her or pretty much same as she has been?

No she isn't thinner at all she is pretty chunky. I think I will get some sleep, and report on her tomorrow. Thanks Ravyn for your support and trouble shooting. Night night.

I quit paying much attention to weather forecasts; meteorologists are the only folks (other than politicians) who can be wrong more than they're right & still get a pay raise every year. I'm convinced they stick their head out of their office window & call for rain if their face gets wet.

Yes! :gig

I swear sometimes eggs hatch against all odds and other times no matter what you do The bugger winds up being a dud.

This is soooooo true!!!

But these are mostly to boost production, right? Not to get a first-timer to lay? It's freezing here this morning, literally. And I actually looked at the red pepper flakes as I was making their oatmeal this morning! :lau

Can't remember all who commented or asked about Lady Grey's egg and colored duck eggs, so here's to who wanted to know or didn't know... yes, that was a duck egg and they do lay different colors... I have heard, but haven't found a tan/brown egg laying duck, but here are some examples...
Cayugas lay a grey to black egg, btw... and that's also where the myth about Ayam Cemanis laying black eggs came from... :/

Awesome!! I think I was reading that Cayugas are really quiet, and having a black egg is so cool....very tempted to hatch them instead of calls!

This is true . you do all you can for a good hatch. but some things are just out of your control . most incubator O.M. say to clean and sanitize the eggs while almost everyone says not to . really dirty eggs just should not be set. I know that most of you spot wash . I do that and have used the Manna Pro egg cleaner on shipped eggs .this hatch not only have I run dry I'm also not spiking the humidity . should have done it before . after Ravyn told me what she does. I'm holding the humidity at 50 to 55% I need to count eggs but 19 made it to lock down 11 have hatched 6 more are piped 2 are DIS.

:thumbsup

I've been looking at black east indies ducks. They are bantam also, strikingly gorgeous black, and lay a gray egg. Look them up.

I don't know how available eggs are though.
