She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Thought maybe he got lucky & nobody knew what they were worth, or there was no reserve on them.

Hey, while you're in here, I've got a question for you:
I've got 3 month-old chicks outside in a coop I built from pallets with a heat lamp I turn on at night when it's cold. The lamp's hanging up high against the roof trusses, so no danger of it starting any fires. How old you figure they'll need to be b4 I can eliminate the heat lamp?

Didn't see you added that, lol...

Start weaning them now... slowly back it off this week and have it off by next week... mine all go out with no heat between 4-6 weeks... throwing them in shock directly w/out heat is the only thing I worry about... but I get mine to room temps by 3 weeks...

Oh no!!!  So sorry!!

Huh? Not you? lol

I don't bid against a friend...

:hit my power is out! Im so upset :hit i wrapped it in comforters and im waiting! We heard a transformer let go :hit

Hang in there!!! :hugs

Oh. Are they doing well without heat during the day? Are they fully feathered? If they are fully feathered, perhaps you could give them a fake broody hen to snuggle under. Kassaundra made one by using a plastic 5 gal bucket, and turning it into a nest box type of affair. She then drilled holes across the top, about an inch or two apart, and put strips of fleece through the holes, knotted at the top so they wouldn't fall all the way through. The fleece hung down into the bucket, and the chicks cuddled under the fleece strips, kind of like under a broody's feathers.
Yeah, they seem to be doing fine w/o heat during daylight, unless It's cloudy & windy. Might have been fine even then, but I took the cautious approach. I tacked plastic over the two large screened openings, leaving the vents in the gable ends open, so they get plenty of fresh air

Do you have an power converter? They sell a version that plugs into a power port on a car(we used to call them cigarette lighters....) and will convert to 110 form 12V.

You will have to run the car but it will power an incubator.

I have my geneses 1588 set up to run off of a car battery. They sell an adapter for them.

I dont have one :( i always wanted one after i saw Ruby buy one for athis Exact Reason :hit its so much worse because if we loose them its totally my cheap skate behinds fault

If you don't have a converter, grab some ziploc baggies and fill them with hot water and tuck them in the bator... worked for me...

If it lasts for too long i will follow this advice. As of now, its been 20 minutes and the bator is wrapped in comforters...

Which is other advice yall taught me right here. All my hope is lying in how yall have supported others in times like this... I had Immdiatly wrapped the bator, and hubby wanted to move them to a friends but i remmember how thats bad, its easier to scramble a hot egg...

Well that hen that I thought was going broody I just found dead

I guess she wasn't feeling well and was sleeping cuddled in the nesting box to feel better. I took a picture of her sleeping in there yesterday peacefully, the last picture I have of her. She also had apparently slipped off her legband, so I can't tell who she was unless I check the legbands of all the others to see who's accounted for, but I have a feeling she was either a Greenfire hen or a GF/TM cross hen. It always sucks to lose a chicken, but this one is even worse because it's such an expensive loss.

So sorry to hear that.

Oh bless your cotton socks. If you were closer I would bring you my inverter, we have a few laying around. Walmart would have them.

Awe!! Your so sweet, first the cradle, now an inverter... I think were runnin to walmart for that in case this lasts

I would. Those inverters are really good to have. We also have generators. Just in case. Are you starting to get the rain bands from hurricane patricia. If it is then we are next. We haven't had rain in over a month either. We have a burn ban.
