She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Ever had a bird pass up her favorite dust-bathing spot in the dirt in favor of creosote spilled outside the chimney from clean-outs? I looked out the other day & all  of mine were happily throwing it all over themselves & one another. I know a guy who collects it, mixes it with water, & pours it around his foundation to keep bugs out, so maybe it has medicinal properties.

I would like to see pics of that :lau

Oh, it was hilarious! Rooster just standing off to one side watching them like they'd all lost their marbles.

Decision was made and deed has been done. We processed Punkin. His aggression was too much, and I couldn't risk giving him to someone else and causing them problems. So if he was going to be eaten, it might as well be by us. We fed him long enough, he can return the favor.
It wasn't as bad as I expected either. An innocent bird would probably be a little more difficult for me, but he made the decision alot easier.

Im glad that you have the experience now! Its really Not that bad. Im sorry that it had to come to this, but better things are in store!

I disagree. He lived well as long as he accepted being #2. They actually made a good team. But he messed it up.

Exactly how i tell myself! You gave him many good days, and not a single Terrible one. Thats the best that we can do.

Very interesting! Ima have to look into that more...

Sorry that you had to process him :hugs But everyone is right, there are too many good roosters to deal with a bad one. I have some really nice roosters that I don't want to have to eat and really hope I'll be able to find homes for since they're good boys, but I'll do it if I have to, since the hens' welfare comes before my feelings. I have three really great ones that will always stay, but the others need to find their own flocks or be eaten.

In other news, that cemani egg that I forgot the due date of has pipped :weee

Hi! Just hopping in for a moment. It's been a busy week. I picked up a dozen EE hatching eggs Saturday and set them. It's been a little over 26 hours since then. The incubator is a bit fiddly right now but the temperature range isn't bad enough for me to worry about. I set the gauge there for the time being since my clip broke.

I will go through and read what I missed at work tomorrow... shhhh.

An update on my situation. Kept Punkin locked in the run all day and Big Guy seemed fine, the girls flocked around him, he fed and protected them as always. So we got Punkin out of the run, and locked him in a large dog crate in the garage for the night, and Big Guy went into the coop at dark. So... Punkin will be leaving.

:hugs you made the right choice!

Hahahahahaha!!!! As I said at the other house.....I had a good one between my boobs all day! ;)

WHAT??!!??
:lau
Good laugh in here at the minute.

I might have accidentally un Broodied my hen, moved her and the eggs to a new coop as I'm still loosing eggs in the one she was in and don't want to loose all the chicks as they hatch again. Hopefully she will return to sitting on them and finish the hatch.

I hope she gets back on those eggs!

Yup... I have missed having duck eggs... 'bout time these girls started... they're only a week younger than Lady Grey, but they took an extra month to start, lol...

Yay!! I'm glad you're getting eggs!

I'm so appreciative that you guys share your experiences! I remember thinking that roosters can't do all that people say they do, but BG proved to me that they can! And do! Simply amazing. So now its easier for me to picture things like your Jack stories, and understand perfectly. I hope Jacks boys learn well from their daddy.

X2. I'm seeing it more and more myself. I appreciate a good boy. Especially since I have a little jerk!
