So, I threw some feed in some water about 3 days ago, (and then forgot I did) so today I stirred it up and I don't know how "fermented" it is, it was pretty much a mash, and took some out to see how they would react. It seemed to go over quite well, so I mixed up a regular bucket and set that aside and hopefully I can remember to stir it a couple times and add water if I need to, now I just have to find something(s) big enough to put it in to feed them so more than 3 or 4 can eat at the same time.
Amy, did you notice any bubbles or like a white film on the top before stirring? I use crumbles too and I used an air tight lid at first, not knowing better and it fermented quick. I just moved up to a stainless steel pail I bought at the feed store. I try to scoop it out in the morning before stirring because I seem to get the bulk of it out then and it's less watery. I picked up this rubber pan yesterday to try because I heard it is somewhat freeze resistant. It's little giant brand and comes in all different sizes. Until now, I have also been using a dog bowl from the dollar store.
Here are the CLB Cockerels from Ravyn. Both are healthy now and full of energy!

Group shot!!! One has a crooked beak, and the one with edema is fine!!! The swelling dried up and now it just has a piece of loose skin behind its leg.
The lighter colored one on the left is the edema chick.

Cuties, Ross!
Hey, guise!![]()
We have 4/6 Rhode Island Reds stumbling around in the bator! Will get pics up ASAP. Full on red with this hatch. Shipped aigs kinda changes thangs, mmhmm. . .
That's great! Yes, I agree, shipped eggs call for full on red! Especially since each chick that makes it ends up being a pretty expensive chick. I was so involved in my last hatch. Noting the time of each pip, assisting, etc. If I had let them be without interfering, it probably would have been a 50% hatch rather then 90%. All are healthy today, 6 wks later.
