So there is marked improvement in the little sick chick this morning. She's alot more alert and not puffed up, she's awake right now but she hasn't eaten or drank anything on her own yet. I guess I shouldn't give them Corid now?

This is such an interesting topic! The molecule theory hasn’t been verified yet, has it? Or has it? Isn't the idea that water molecules, grouped together, introduce hydrogen bonds, and as water is warmed up, it becomes less dense, and as a result, the hydrogen bonds are stretched as the molecules move farther apart, allowing the covalent bonds to shrink and release their energy, which is equivalent to cooling. So the hot water is able to release energy faster, which results in a quicker freeze? I hope I understand it. We were learning about this theory the other day at a meeting. SO cool. The other two theories not quite as interesting, imo.

Well it has more or less many years ago . although not worded quite like that. you have heard it a million times .read it on ac units and heaters little thing called BTUs. or British Thermal Units. the study and measurement of heat and cold transference between objects .. The theory is whichever is smaller in mass but higher or lower in temperature has the faster rate of exchange to the other until they equalize. I.E. a hot bottle of water placed in freezer will freeze faster than a cold bottle of water placed in the same freezer due to the faster rate of exchange . or a glass chilled water will warm to room temperature faster than just cold tap water. make sense ? don't ask me to repeat that .not sure I can .

If she days there on them tomorrow I might swap them for the eggs I have in the Brooder inside. I wonder how much a 5 day hatch would confuse her?

A Silkie? She'll probably be fine... mine kept trying to stuff the chicks back under for 3 days after all the eggs were done hatching... they really get into the 'setting' mindset... just put food and water close after they start so the early ones can get to it...

Corid won't hurt if they don't have cocci... if it was me, I'd still run a course just to be safe... especially if shes still not eating or drinking...

I have no problems peeling fresh eggs... boil water first, drop them in, when done I shock them in very cold water... as soon as I can pick them up without burning myself, I crack it over the aircell first, roll it sideways and the shell pops right off... easy peasy...
