So I candled all the eggs. Here are my results. Started with 41 only 17 remain. All 12 SLP eggs were clears. So I pulled them. :( then out of the duck eggs I had one clear, and 7 growing great!!!! :yiipchick. That makes me happy. Out of 16 silkie eggs I only have 4 growing. :hit Their air cells are very wobbly. One is a questionable early quitter. Then out of the 4 Breese cross eggs from Turk I have one quitter and the other 3 growing great!!

They are so cute!!
 Yeh make em roll into an outside trough for easy collection They can be fragile eggs Try an Asian market if one is near you, they usually have processed quail and eggs
Our local grocery store sells quail eggs next to the chicken eggs. Does not say if they are fertile or not but I thought that was interesting to see them sold at a commercial grocery store.

Awesome!
Well....I trimmed the rump feathers on my SLP. He just laid in my lap and let me do my job with out fighting me. He is such a sweet boy! That was early yesterday so today I am going to start collecting again. Lol!!!! Later this afternoon we are going to go harvest some fresh oysters and do a roast this evening. I am super excited. Tonight is day 7 on duck and chicken eggs. I am going to pull all the clears from my SLP. I'm sure it's going to be all of them. Then I will be candling the silkies!!!!
Can't wait to hear how they are doing! I opened a pack of those hand warmers and they get HOT!! I think we should have skipped them. :fl :fl :fl

Howdy Ruby!

Last night was such a nightmare!!! We had a horrible storm. Power is still out. It went out at 12:30am. I had set eggs at 6pm, so I'm not really worried about them. They can warm and cool in early incubation with no ill effects, right? I've read about large hatcheries heating and cooling them before the heart start beating, I forget why they do that but I think they will be okay to get reset tonight.

But...I have 10 chicks that were only around 24 hours old. They started crying like crazy. No generator, so I brought all 10 chicks into bed with me. I couldn't think of anything else to do. They actually loved it! They snuggled up next to my skin and I put all the covers over them. They made that little trilling sound they make when they are happy and going to bed. But I barely slept a wink. I had my 1 year old baby on one side of me that kept waking and crying because the thunder and wind was so intense. Then 10 little chicks preening and snuggle on the other side of me all night. Got out of bed at 6am and drove them to my moms with the heat light. Oh what a night!!

Definitely buying a generator when I get my tax return!

We were posting at the same time! No way, really!! That's so sad, such a waste. I don't know if you read my post but last night I had no power and had to sleep with my chicks. I had one pack of those hand warmers left and I opened them and put them in the bed with me. They got super HOT. Like, the chicks wouldn't even go near them because they were to hot. Well over 100 degrees. I'm wondering if they damaged the eggs at all. I will definitely not use them again. I really hope all 4 hatch!!
