Losing her hearing isn't great, but it's much better than the possible alternative. I've never had a deaf sheep, but I had a deaf dog who lived a perfectly good life.

I am just so happy Muffin is okay. TBH, I cried a bit when I thought you were close to losing each other.

I'm sure she will be getting some extra treats now!

I am sad to announce Muffin was put down today after she lost her ability to stand and was having frequent seizures. The vet thinks it could have been kidney failure or a tumor, but she didn't seem to be suffering which is a big relief for me. RIP Muffinator. She was 16 1/2 years old.

She is the last of my flock. It's the end of an era, but I will always have fond memories of keeping these special sheep.

When I saw the notification this morning, I didn't want to open it because I suspected it would be bad news.

My heart breaks for you and sweet Muffin, who led a very long and well-loved life. Helping them to let go when it's time is the final act of love we can provide.

But, she --as well as Zinnia and Pearl -- will be with you in your heart forever.

And, I loved your instructions on "shearing" Katahdins. Your girls were so incredibly cared for. :hugs

I am so sorry this era ended for you and your flock. Take care.

Thank you. I had some time to prepare and sat and cried with her the night before, so I'm doing okay. I felt so much better after the vet told us she didn't suffer and we did all we could. He said it was special to see a sheep that lived past her mid-teens. I'll really miss watching her happily graze on the lawn, hearing her call for me, and petting her woolly winter hair.

Your vet staff is definitely a keeper! I've had a number of large-animal vets over the years, and none has sent such a sweet note. Muffin clearly touched their lives, too. I know you miss her so much.

BTW, I got my BYC calendar; congrats Seana being the September "cover girl"; she's lovely!
Yes! It makes me kinda sad we won't be a client anytime soon because we don't have large animals anymore.

And thank you! It's Seana's second time in the BYC calendar. She is such a sweet and photogenic hen.
