Shell-less egg and soft shell egg by 2 different hens? Calcium?

I had some laying issues that started this summer. After much research I went with flock raiser because I have an unexpected rooster and a young pullet. I was giving them treats, WAY too much. So, I pulled the treats and in just two days I saw more eggs. Although I'll have 1 or 2 one day and 5 or 6 the next. I think our blankity blank blank heat is a factor as well.

Wondering if our heat wave is contributing to my young hens crazy weird eggshell issues too

This is really good information to read. My chicks are about 10-11 weeks old and wondering if I should go ahead and start on layer feed so they already have in their system before the laying begins. Any thoughts??

No.
They won't need the 'extra' calcium until they are all laying.
Many of us never use layer feed, but add a feeder of oyster shells for the added calcium

Oh-Okay ! Goodness, I'm glad I asked the question. Just the feeder of OS-ok.
When should I do that? I read a lot about new birds producing soft shelled eggs and want to do something early to possibly to help. I do understand that in the beginning they could produce odd eggs. It can & probably will happen-just a beginner looking for good advice for my babies. Thanks so much !

When they start laying...no reason to give it 'early'.

It should be safe to leave oyster shell out all the time, even if yours aren't close to laying yet. With younger birds, they may sample it, but shouldn't want to eat a lot of it, until they're closer to laying. By having it out it gives them a chance to explore what it is, and the option of eating it once they feel they need it.
