We sometimes eat it! We add some seeds to pancakes evey once in a while but we really don't have much use for it. It grows like a weed in our garden!
Wow. I wish I had it growing like a weed. I love to eat it like cereal. I pop them, my Mom sweetens them with Maple Syrup, then we eat it like cereal. Yummy!

Okay, I was able to download/upload (whatever the difference is) one body shot of one of the amaranth eaters. Yes, it's panting. It was so hot that even the songbirds were panting!

Wait, you can pop them?! How?
Yes. Pop them. As cereal, they're the best!

On low heat, I take the tallest pot I have and warm it up. I occasionally sprinkle in a little Amaranth to test the temperature. When it's popping within seconds, it should be good. Then I gently scatter a tablespoon at a time of Amaranth in the pan. I let it set for a few seconds while they pop, then shake the pan around to get more to pop. When they're all popped, or close to all popped, I pour them in a bowl and move onto the next tablespoon.

These cook fast, so you want to keep a close eye on them and cook only on LOW heat. (I have it on 4 on my stove if you have that) If the Amaranth starts sticking, then the pot is too hot. They're kinda white when popped, not black! Just occasionally shake the pan around to cook them all. These pop high like popcorn, so be sure to have a high walled pot, pefered with the solid bottom if possible, but if not available, that's ok. Don't cover the pot, because you need to watch the Amaranth.

Then my Mom shakes cinnamon across the top of finished product and add maple syrup. You'll probably have to do this to taste. Then serve. Eat like cereal with milk and everything.

Hopefully I typed out the instructions out good enough for you. If you try it, you'll have to let me know what you think. :)

Aww. Don't know the breed, just sorta the class. Looks like a female. It would be a nut eater too. Pretty sounding. Looks like a Grosbeak...

Oo, I think grosbeak crossed my mind, but I didn't look into it much. If that one is female, the male doesn't look very different. There were a pair calling to their baby, that's how I first noticed them. One also caught a grasshopper or something.

I'm deffinitly going to try that! I have a gass stove and can adjust the heat with a dial thing.

So pretty! I could be wrong, fyi. Just going by body and beak build, that's what I'm guessing. Grosbeak.

Ok! I have an electric stove. Ok. Just go low heat. ;)
