Both get fed the exact same.

Now here’s one of NHRs who came from a normal feed store (New Hampshire red)

Terrible plumage right? It came from a feed store.

Now here’s an NHR from a german show line (very fancy genetics lol) exact same breed just different genetics..

(Ignore the extended leg, it was walking away as i took the pic lol)

Yes mine are like yours but darker red. his is just like the New Hampshire red
so pretty. I love your chickens. what kind is that black and white one? Its so pretty.

Maybe you posted the wrong photo? That second photo is of a Buff Orpington rooster.

the picture I added is not his. it was only a color reference so people could see the color difference. If i had a picture of his it would be exactly like the New Hampshire red that silkie posted.

The black and white one is a barred rock.

Again, likely genetics. Pretty much the only answer is a change in breeding stock.

Yes genetics. My first four RIRs were from a feed store. Two were dark red and shiny and two were lighter red. They all came from the same hatchery too. So it’s just genetics.

Well I still like mine more. they attack anyone that isnt me. and his act like they looking for a hand out begging everyone that walks by lol

Would it be ok to get 2 barred rock chicks, get them to the right size to be taken out, put them in a second pen so the other chickens are close, then put them together after a few weeks? this is my new fave chicken. they so pretty. will the reds get along with the rocks is what i mean.

It will be okay :) reds can be a little bossy, so make sure to supervise them for their first few meetings.

You have hens that attack people?
That's a real rarity unless they have chicks.
Guess to some it is a lol but not to me. I wouldn't own a hen like that.

Yes barred rocks will get along with RIR as long as the barred rocks are of decent size before introduction.
BTW there are many breeds that come in barred pattern.

x2
Dominiques
Cuckoo marans
Barred cochins
Crele Legbars
Bielefelders
Dixie Rainbow
To name a few

Yea. they attack everyone but me. They used to fight alot then i seporated them for a few weeks and now they are better about it but its like one is the mastermind. shes the biggest one of the 3 and if she don't like someone shes first to attack them. its like she thinks she is their mom maybe.
