Shipping and Receiving Pea eggs contest!

Ok the newbee got pictures on with message between last 2 pictures. They are backwards also.

Ok my knowledge and understanding of the shipping choices and also experience hauling Fed X and USPS 10-15 years ago. My husband and I teamed we hauled a lot of Fed X our first 5 years, a little USPS to distribution centers. Memphis, TN is the hub for Fed X ground and air. It was unbelievable that packages ever made it to their destination and believe me many didn't we seen them on the ground being ran over. They work fast with no care to any package. They are dumped in train like carts. If a package falls out they just keep going. Next train of carts runs right over them. Most people think Fed X is all air mailed, wrong most is shipped by truck. Today the trailers have air ride, which helps some with the jarring, but pot-holes quick stops etc. little eggs get a nasty ride. In the summer the trailers are not airconditioned. Today's trailers are thin. When you open a trailer in hot weather they are unbearable to be in. Long shipments in the heat I am suprised the egg isn't hard boiled coming off the truck.

Now for the shippers. FedX and UPS somewhat merged meaning that they haul each others freight to save money. UPS now ships packages thru the USPS, also.

Our choice of shipping method isn't really a choice today. They do what ever is more cost effective for them. My friend is a USPS mail deliverer. She sure isn't happy about delivering 50 lb boxes from UPS on her mail route to our door now. If you pay higher fees it's more likely to be brought to your door by UPS. Fed X still delivers your package to your door but can use common carries and UPS to get it to distribution centers. Even if it's an air shipment it has to get to the airport by truck then how does the egg survive the altitude?

Knowing this I still hear people who have had good luck with the shipped eggs. So I was willing to give it a shot for the choice of color. Lil Zoo

That sounds like 2 down 4 to go. Will do as you suggested with 2 eggs. I have a good hen, but I've never stold her eggs and replaced them before either. Can you tell me your methods?

I called Fed-Ex tis morning because Maddie13 from BYC here wants eggs and she lives out west,,I asked if the cargo hold was pressurized and was told all freight is in a pressurized compartment,,so eggs should survive a flight.

Just finished wrapping eggs being shipped to FBC. Blackshoulder split to bronze. Five eggs total. Estimated distance is 562-586 miles, depending on route taken. Carrier method is USPS priority mail. Eggs were shipped 6/9. Expected delivery 6/11.

Eggs are wrapped in bubble wrap with the ends taped with regular tape. This leaves enough room on the sides of the tape to let air in. Packaging in the box is crunched up newspaper and magazines along with packing peanuts and a little shredded paper to fill in the gaps. Eggs are placed in the center of the box, aircell end up. More crunched up paper and packing peanuts on top. Box is marked fragile.

I kind of figured it would be. There were about 20 people who were watching the listing. Trust me when I say Bronze bs would be a nice pen anywhere. Although I have to admit, my pen is next to my Bronze pen. Your eggs should be there on Monday.

Just posting an update on my first batch of shipped eggs (and I'll post the pics of my next batch, promise).

I shipped from Michigan to Kansas. I used USPS flatrate (the 11.95 one, with delivery confirmation, total was $12.10). I shipped 4 eggs. I wrapped in newspaper only- crumpled some and lined the bottom, crumpled 1 sheet of newspaper around each egg and tucked them in a square pattern in the box. Crumpled newspaper over the top of them until the box was snug. No other packaging materials were used. The box arrived intact, as did all 4 eggs. The buyer has them in the incubator now and said she'd let me know how the hatch goes.

I didn't really know about this thread until Kedreeva told me & I didn't know where it was until today, so I didn't take any pics of the packaging. Here is a pic of the eggs that are in the incubator now that were received from Kedreeva.
