Shipping eggs on Ebay

Well.. let me tell you a thing or two....

1. It's my money... If I want a freaking dead fish included with my eggs, he could either say no, or just not respond.

2. Some people, even ones that have the best intentions, can still be pricks!

I don't think that it is an unreasonable request.. I have eggs being shiped out tomorrow, and I know that they will be sitting in an truck over night at my PO. Right now it is 26 degrees and freezing rain. If I want a small heat pack put on the bottom of the box under the padding then that is what I EXPECT being that I'M PAYING.

If the seller doesn't want to accomodate then so be it.

Um, I lived in North Pole, Alaska for 8 years and did have eggs shipped to me there at all times of the year. Where I live now has the same temperature range as North Pole and I've received several shipments of eggs this winter. I've never had heat packets added and all of the eggs have turned out fine with about the same hatch rate as eggs I've shipped in the summer. I just ask all of my sellers to put "Fragile hatching eggs, do not allow to freeze" on the box.

Wind chill should not be a problem. It's the ambient air temp that will affect the eggs. I do agree that the seller could have put it a little bit differently but by the same token, you are dealing with someone you don't know and maybe that is the way they always talk. It is really hard to put a "tone" to writing but very easy to read one in particularly when you don't know the person. Even on this board there are some folks that come across on their posts as extremely rude but maybe they don't realize it. It's probably just the way they are.

Agree , the USPS handle package that need kelp from freezing all the time......so if marked, and eggs freeze and crack, sure that would be a good claim.

Yes I do trust the USPS to try and do a good job....FACT....I have shipped eggs the last 4 years with not ONE BROKEN EGG...No I would not add heat packs either.... yes I have shipped to Alaska also...I even tell buyer any eggs broken will be replaced , thats how sure I am of my shipping. Again hatching eggs getting to warm, does more harm than any getting to cold.

This is so true with some of us...myself for one ...I have alot of knowledge of birds and hatching, and etc....but terrible about putting it in type , sure I may come across rude....but never mean to.

Myself I would try the eggs from the seller....looks like they know what they are doing when shipping eggs ...check their feedback.....

I believe the e-bay seller could have provided the OP with the same information and said the same thing without being rude and condescending. Perhaps the seller was correct about the heating pad, perhaps not... there still was absolutely no need for the seller's tone.

I agree that I would not want to do business, either in person or online, with someone who was such a snob to the customers that put money in their pockets.

I have no clue on heat packs with eggs in winter, personally I think it's to darn cold to hatch out chicks.

The problem with e-mail is that you easily misinterpret the tone. I find the phrase "you must be new to this" a little condescending but he/she did put a little smiley face after the statement and did offer to answer any questions. I can take that being condescending or trying to be helpful with a poor choice of wording.

I read that last night the first time and thought he may be arrogant. I am sitting here having my coffee and re-reading it.

Sorry but I don't believe he said anything wrong or said it badly. You may have inferred an arrogant tone but I don't think he wrote it that way.
