what is ultra kibble? yes.. i'll google.. i called my other feed supply but all they could offer was a pullet grower pellet 16% at 14.10$ for 25kg i actually prefer my crumble and it's not much more.. so i dunno...

I feed FR crumble too, I was just looking to add other grains to help with cost and give them added nutrients.

It's pricey but you only top dress with it. So we'll see if i can tell a difference in about a month.

So today I tried a mix of Cracked corn (half a scoop) with 2 Green peppers (chopped up) with some Dry cat food. And boy did they go crazy! Im going to try a mix of the Green peppers,Tomatos, Grapes, Strawberrys, some Blueberrys, Cracked corn, and Dry cat food. I let the younger ones sample it, and they ate all of it! Im hoping its a hit with the older ones

why cat food? I've heard of folks feeding Puppy chow to their ducks but not cat food.

Cat food is protein based since they are true carnivores while dog food is grain based (usually) or at least contains more grain than cat food since they are omnivores. I had read (somewhere) that you could give cat food during molting to provide extra protein. Probably read it in Storey's Guide but who knows.

I figured cat food because the dog food we have right now is pretty large, and the ducks love it as a treat The ducklings wont eat the corn that much but when we put the cat food out for the random kitten that keeps comming around and they just ravage it! Little turds they are becomming. lol. Just trying to extend their type of food intake

Yeah, Orchard will grow here. I get some good locally grown Orchard for my horses. It's not quite as nice as Eastern hay, but it's still good and half the price. I didn't realize oats make a good pasture grass. Is that before the oat grain develops?

Oats grow a lovely tender, wide leafed succulent grass. It is excellent forage and easy to grow. Once the grain head is mature, the grass stalk turns that golden color and it is no longer good feed. if farmers are cutting oat for hay, they cut when the seed head is still only half mature and get a nice pale green hay. Once the seed is mature, if it is cut, you get oat straw with no feed value.

Oats are an annual. They are easy to grow, but the plant lasts one year. Seed is cheap and it will self-sow if your birds don't eat all the fallen grain (which they probably will)

Orchard grass is a perennial. Once it is established, it will be there for years. It has a good high protein content, which is why it is recommended for hay and pasture. It is low maintenance and you don't have to do much for it. Seed costs a lot more than oat seed, but it is for a permanent installation. If you buy direct from the farmer, it is probably about 50 cents a pound for orchard grass seed. I paid 33 cents a pound for orchard grass seed, but that was 5 years ago.

You can get both oat and orchard grass and plant them together. The oats come up fast for feed right mow and the orchard grass will be slower to establish but it will be back next year.
