I think the store should provide info on everything you need to raise/care for a chick.
I know some people already have the supplies at home, but alot of people have no clue what they need.

Alot of people walk into "chick days" and have no clue what they are getting into.
I know everyone has to start somewhere, but I think that people sgould at least have some clue as what they need.

WHen you go to buy chicks, you should change into bib overalls and a straw hat. Oh, and carry a list of all the chick raising equipment you have at home.

I totally think they should NOT sell baby anything, you know the people that buy these babies on a whim and have NO clue what to do with them? I was looking at them and some woman and her kids were buying baby chicks and I asked her if she had the heat lamp already cause all she had was a little bag of food, she said Nahh we are going to have them in the house they don't need a heat lamp and in a couple weeks we have a dog house that our dog refuses to use and they can live in there.......anybody at all can purchase these babies and nobody gives a darn, so as much as I enjoy looking at them I think it's wrong

I've actually been asked once ot twice if i need any feed or anything when i've gotten feed store chicks and nothing else and i've talked out loud to my daughter several times and told her to not let me forget to get the feed levels or something like that and i've asked someone who was buying one of those giant waterers how old and how many chickens they had and when they told me i said something like they must drink a lot because i have xyz size for mine we do what we can. i wish there was a way to post your number at a feed store for people to call for the easter chick pics that way you could charge a small fee and take a few chicks and let them have their pics and then take the chics home imo it's a win win for everyone the chicks included because you control the sitting kinda like an animal wrangler on the movies

I am an animal lover, animal advocate, pet owner and mother of four children....however, the sad truth is, as much as I love my animals, my chickens included....all we can do is hope and pray for the best.....if we could make laws to regulate everything....as a mother of 4, and a speech pathologist who works with children with special needs....I think regulations should be put in place on who can and can't or should or shouldn't be parents.....babies go home from hospitals every day with uneducated, unprepared parents! Why is it such a surprise that animals go home from pet stores and feed stores with unprepared, uneducated owners! Broken systems across the board....I guess we have to remember, there are GOOD feed stores and pet stores out there who do what they are supposed to do....

I think "cackydoodledoo" would have jumped to conclusions in my case, I arrived early at the TSC store to pick up my 12 chicks and while I waited for them to arrive, I bought and loaded a bag of feed into my truck. When the chicks arrived, they were already paid for so I just jumped in my truck and left. When I ordered my chicks several weeks ealier, I bought everything I needed, such as feeder, waterers, heat lamp, etc. The coop has been ready for months, and a brooding area had been set up and ready in my basement. So, I'd have to say for the most part, people do have a sense of what is required. And the people at TSC were very helpfull in helping me get set up before the chicks arrived.

Big R & TSC feed stores have them gated off so kids can't play with them. In fact TSC told me ,it was a new law. There is one feed store that has them in these awful stack type brooders that you can't see into very well ,seem too hot and are over crowded. There's always several dead and stinking chicks in each brooder. Another store has them in nice big tubs but kids and parents think it's a petting zoo. The chicks just look beat.

The Big R and TSC stores in my area seem to care about the chicks. They usually aren't too knowledgeable about chicks BUT they're always clean and look healthy.

Well, I'm beginning to wonder this myself. I had a HORRIBLE experience yesterday at TSC. They must have just got chicks, and there were two placed in the garbage can, one on it's way out but the other was crying so loud!!

I couldn't believe it!! I felt sick. Customers should not be seeing that. One of the workers put the crying chick in the pen, it must have been the look of absolute horror on our faces! I feel the staff has no knowledge of how to handle baby chicks, the worker who sat there and listened to that poor baby cry had no compassion for the thing. There needs to be education of workers, but my TSC has a revolving door, what to do?
