Should i add a rooster advise needed.

I think that is AWESOME!:wee
So.... I got a Rooster!!!! Mostly because the first time I saw him i was drawn to him. He was a "rooster too many" of my neighbor's and she let him come try out our coop for a day. I reached in his pen and picked him up and he fell asleep in my arms on the way home. Her flock is healthy so I didn't quarintine him and he insantanly let everyone hold him. Both my 9 and 7 year old sons ans my husband. We held our breath and this is what happened so far. What do you think?

What a beautiful setup!! My quick 2cents are:
1) My Cochin boy pulled all the feathers out of the girls. And they're supposed to be gentle. That's a myth about being able to trust the rooster alarm - by the time you might hear anything it's too late. My boy was killed trying to defend the girls, but they were killed and hauled off.
2) Could do. Sometimes a rooster can be overprotective and attack a person without the slightest threat.....referencing a rhode island red who had to go live at another farm.
3 & 4) Things are good. Roosters totally change the dynamic of a flock and your experience with them. If you have Fort Knox, rely on that. Otherwise get some Guineas...now THERE'S an alarm for ya!

He's very handsome, and huge!
I wouldn't be cuddling him! Make sure he respects your space, and that you can walk 'through' him at all times. He should move out of your way! Make pets of your hens, and let him do his work.

Why no cuddling him? Roosters can't be pets as well? Or is it harmful for the flock? He is so sweet. A week younger than my girls. He is 20 weeks.

Not sure if this was suggested but run an electric wire around the run and close in the top,no rooster will be a friend to the kids and dog and a killing machine to predators... electric wire and a gun

Roosters can be friendly to a dog and kids, You just have to treat him right, The thought that roosters are only aggressive and can’t be pets is absurd: https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/the-ever-misunderstood-rooster.72932/

I never said that it thanks for twisting my words around ,
I said he won’t be a friendly lap rooster and a proper guard rooster ... they aren’t both . If you want a true rooster to protect his flock then the kids the dogs and predators are the enemies .
