Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Thanksgiving and Diner's first time outside. They seemed happy enough. I am still unfamiliar with the meaning of their sounds. They didn't seem cold (0nly got to 55*, not 60, but still no wind) but after about ten or fifteen minutes the "peep peep peep" concerned me, so I brought them inside, and weighed them. They are over a pound now. They are three weeks today or tomorrow.
17 eggs. Several were broken or eaten.

Thanks Cheeka! I'm gonna go w a silkie then unless it gets significantly bigger w the next couple popping out. It's adorable! A very light cream color!

Did I mention how much I love my girls??? They are so great! Except PhylRodger who screamed bloody murder when I put her inside the pen yesterday so the babies could explore for a bit. And she pecked me on the leg today for no reason! She got a reprimand!!! What a diva!

HEY GUYS!!! Miss me? LOL....

I've been getting 12-14 eggs a day. I think both the cochins are laying. I got another egg yesterday and today, and they are a little different in color AND texture. If they are anything like their mama, I will be getting 5-6 bitty eggs a week out of each of them. I let the littles out this weekend with the big girls, and they were fine. They go back into the coop if they get chilled and the big girls pretty much ignore them. We got a lot of stuff done this weekend, including putting up some wire around the top of the run so they can't fly over the fence. We spread lime and fertilizer this weekend, and are going to be sowing grass seed and putting out the garden, so I want to be able to keep them confined if needed... Picked up limbs and trash ect that got blown around in our big storm the other day. I added some bedding in the coops, and refreshed the nest boxes. Cleaned up the feed room, and rearranged some stuff in there. The kids picked up rocks and sticks out of the yard so we could work on getting it ready to sow grass seed. Busy busy!!!! I candled a few of the eggs again, and there is still movement and I've seen a couple of them rocking! Lock-down is on Wed!

The hooligans spent a few hours outside today. It was about 54 and a little breezy but I don't think they were super cold. It's a lot of work to get them out there though so I don't know how much more of that we'll be doing. Worked on the coop a little...long ways from being done though.

Whoo Hoo! George *finally* went to the big girl coop on her own feet. I closed up the baby coop before it started to get dark, and then watched her carefully to see where she roosted. She agonized and wandered in circles around the coop and made little distress noises. Astrid tried to call her to the big girl coop, but she wouldn't go. Then, she spied me watching her through the window and ran over to make distress noises at me, so I hid. She would start to cross the yard to the big girl coop, then run back to her baby coop, and her venturing was getting more and more centered on the baby coop as darkness fell. So, I went out with a flashlight and she followed the light three quarters of the way to the big girl coop, then chickened out and made a dash for the baby coop. I cut off her escape that way and herded/lured her to the big girl coop. I shined the flashlight at the pop door and SHE WENT IN. Yay! Finally. Maybe it will help set in her stubborn little mind that is home and safety, now.

Mortie... When I had chicks, I put them in a bucket to haul them in and out of the house.
