The chickens went CRAZY for the strawberry tops! They were gone within minutes! I ended up with 11 pints, and a small jelly jar full of freezer jam! I am hoping to be getting some more berries next week, and I want to try to make some with blueberries and blackberries.

I have to make some deviled eggs for my sister's birthday tomorrow.... she asked me if I would use store-bought eggs because she can't get past the thought that they came from my chickens.... my mom either....

I told her I would tell her they were store-bought.LOL

yes, best just tell them that... and when they say how good they are... still don't say anything, they will never taste so good from store bought.

They turned 12 weeks old today.

They got a chocolate chip cookie to share...I hear they loved that. They now cluck a lot more than they peep. They're still getting bigger before my eyes! I haven't let them out to range in a few days but the last time I did, I lunged toward them and no one squatted. Not that I expected them to but I checked anyway. We're got a ways to go. I'll open up the nest box the first part of July but that's only so they can have some time to inspect it before anyone gets any ideas about laying any eggs.

I'm there with ya! I'm still waiting and checking and waiting some more! We go on vacation in 2 weeks and I bet the little snots will lay their first Egg while we are gone, Just for meanness if nothing else.

Oh yeah. We're going on vacation in august and I've known since they hatched that they would hold their eggs in til we leave just to be mean.

I am having the most wonderfully relaxing day! just dashed in to say howdy and grab something to eat - we've been out ranging for 4 hours already and they are partaking of the shade, most with their eyes closed. all my outdoor chores are done and the indoor chore is doing itself for the time being - laundry... have 3 loads to put away later. it's so beautiful out and the chickens have a new "toy" to see how beautiful they are!
