When I was selling off my flock this past spring, I had to keep my RSL. The one was in a bad molt, so there was that excuse (you have to keep them in pairs at least!) but the real reason was her sister. She is the one that at 3-days-old, escaped either the brooder (maybe with the help of a cat) or during free range (on the day my profile picture was taken). She turned up 3 days later across the yard by the layer pen. With hawks, dogs, cats, etc, and the motorcycle (Oh my gosh we rode through the grass so many times that week!) she managed to stay warm, hydrated, and alive!! She is now the one that runs inside when everyone runs out because I am in the coop cleaning. She investigates the pile I am working on, sits on the roost while I am cleaning under it, and leans wayyyy down. She has even sat on the rake! She is just too funny to sell.
We finally got a good rain tonight. Tomorrow is going to be bad though. We are expecting hail. My mother is coming to see me. She is retired now. She is making the rounds to her 7 children. Fortunately, we only span from N.J. (north and south) to Ohio (in the town she decided to retire in). I can't say I am excited, but it is my punishment for being born.
I hope she gets here before it gets too bad.
I may need to put the BBW in the big coop with the chickens. Not ideal, but if their pen gets blown apart...
