Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Cheeka - cute chicks!

JW - I don't think pepper flakes make chickens lay any more than they make humans ovulate. i won't be bothering giving them to my girls. They're just going to lay when they lay. Sadly, no pepper flakes would make their bodies do something they're just not ready to do. If I thought it would work I would totally do it lol.

it is good for them in the summer, opens up the vessels, helping with heat exchange through feet and comb/wattles?

I would just like to say, I have an easter eager who started laying at 17 weeks and a RSL at 16 weeks...I fed them hot peppers.

Have you fed yours hot peppers? I also ferment my feed...why aren't you doing that yet? :p

I had 3 checking out the nest boxes today a barred rock, EE, and a BO and my broody bantam cochin was of course bossing them away. You would think she would encourage them to lay so she can sit on some eggs lol..

I keep looking at and reading about fermenting. It's just not anything I have had time to try yet. I think I will go that way in the future but as of right now I just haven't.

I had to leave work early to come home and take care of all the critters! It's going to do this the rest of tonight. The thunder and lightning right now is just.... Violent. The last time we had storms like this I had a tree down across my drive way that also took out all the power lines to the house. We have a well for water so no power ... No water.... No water means no bathroom trips, it all has to be done outside.... Outside equals bummer!

Oh dear! Take care!

I actually am getting concerned about Penny now. She isn't out running around with the flock and when I go outside she doesn't come out from under the deck. I can see her under there staring at me.

brown #3 turned away just as the shutter clicked, it was looking up at Mama... I think she has more hatching, she won't let these 3 back under, but it's very warm and humid, they are quite perky and so so so sweet! finally!!! gettin' my chick fix!!

and the report is in. Rhody died from a copperhead snake bite.
