Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Well, the power crew is working on the line to this side of the mountain. They say they want it on tonight...me too...I'm so over it already. Cannot go for another birdbath in a bathroom without heat....auuugggghhhhhh........enough of this winter time camping out! Stick a fork in me..I'm done...never really liked camping anyway...maybe for a weekend, overnight in the backyard, in the Airstream, on a sailboat....in the summer! I dun lost my mind.
Hope they get the electric on for you. If you get too bored I will send Roger up there for a few days.

ugh, my chickens don't like the time change. I'm normally home an hour earlier, and collect the eggs as soon as I get home. For revenge, one was literally COVERED in poop.

EIGHT.....Today We Are Perfect.....A Perfect EIGHT

Coldest morning of the season in our old Kentucky home. Was 25 degrees this morning. First time for frozen water. The girls didn't mind. They all laid eggs

Hope your power gets turned back on and that it stays back on. We have very mild winters. Maybe a bit of frost, but not very many days near or below freezing. That doesn't stop me from complaining, though. The air is always damp and it makes the cold feel so much colder. N.California has turned this Jersey kid into a total weather wimp! You guys dealing with real cold have my chilled-to-the-bone sympathy.

Only 4 eggs today. They don't seem to be molting, so it's probably just the season. I purposely don't keep my animals on a fixed schedule, so there's no drama with the time change because I'm never late!

Or I'm always late depending on your point of view! Bwaahaha!

Not really sure. Maybe for the same reason animals hibernate- less food and sunlight available, more metabolic energy spent keeping warm. Some folks put artificial lighting in their coops to keep up laying during winter, but I figure they slow down for a reason so I'll just let nature take it's course.

how come they slow down in the winter!

x 2 give them a rest and they will continue to lay that much longer in the future.

I spoke with my DH's chiropractor in town, and we talked about molting. She had no idea chickens were supposed to molt. She keeps a light on every day. She just can't comprehend the idea of chickens molting, or why they would need to.
I may have more time to sit, and read up on chickens, but I knew about molting in the first article I read. After 2 years (that is how long she has had them) I would think she would know more. She also doesn't know to keep them safe from predators. We may all know different things, but she makes me wonder.
