Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Ok now I have another question, this one if from my Husband.

Currently our hens are laying one every couple of hours through the day.

Is there much hope or maybe a way of encouraging them to all lay earlier in the day?

Pie in the sky, high hopes I am sure, but I told him I would ask.

And thank you so much for your replies earlier today!
not that I know of. they lay when they lay...

work is crazy, I'm pooped all the time. I'll be doing 2 routes a day for the next month at least. for the 2 weeks that I am scheduled to do the 100 mile route, I will also be doing my own.

flock is good, Gossy is good. she did not eject an egg. her daughters have been sneaking under the gate and laying eggs in the igloo. when she got up the other day, I saw all 8 marked eggs plus a green one from Lilac. I never noticed the egg I took out didn't have a date mark on it.

Mortie, I saw that you recommended reading this entire thread, so I started at the beginning, and got to post #422. There is so much history, abd the poems are fantastic! Thank u got carrying on the tradition.

I wonder if the chickens realize their entertainment value...

Chickens love pie, you know.

I usually collect at the end of the day, but I don't have to worry about them freezing. Is that the problem?

My chicken light comes on at 4 am (currently we have daylight from 7 am til 5 pm and I started lighting the coop after the days started getting longer). Getting up earlier they do tend to lay earlier for me. I go out at 8 and there are usually about 75% of the eggs I'm going to get for the day already laid. Freezing is a problem for me but it has only happened a couple of times in spite of having temps below zero. I usually go out 2-3 times a day. Once in the morning, once around noon, and one more time in the late afternoon if I feel like there might be more coming.

That's really the only thing I can think of, as was said there is no way to encourage chickens to lay earlier...mine are just being tricked into thinking the day is longer than it is. Since my crew tend to be morning layers and not subscribe to the whole "they lay 1 hr later every day" thing...it works for me. But if yours are determined to lay later in the day there really is no way to "fix" that.

no matter what you do they will lay when they want. i also have a light that comes on about 4.30am so by 1:00 most have laid, i do have one that waits till 3 in the afternoon, try the light in the early morning it may help.

One of the marans lay after I feed in the evening at 4ish and before going to roost at dark. I have to check when I lock up for her egg. Not sure why but that's her preferred time. Maybe because there is no line at the nest box!
I caught one of the black muffed girls in the box this morning and a warm olive egg in it! I was wondering who was laying that beauty!

yes we always check for eggs at 5 which is the time we lock up in the winter, went out to check my new chickens one laid an egg, no other chickens are in this coop, so what we find is from them, going to check when we go to give saerch
i am not a roos lover but hubby is and he is a nice looking one.

Ok, I guess all I had to do is complain.

That is nothing new!

Went out to open the coop this morning and there was not only an egg, it was HUGE. Poor little hen! Now I feel bad.

The one on top is an example of the eggs we have been getting, the other is the egg we got this morning!

Monster Egg!

Oh and yes, Freeze is definitely an issue. -6 this morning.
