Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

oh and because I know it's coming.

They are eating layer feed with oyster shell on the side and have been since the first egg was laid. They have plenty of calcium available to them and she doesn't give them treats anymore since stopping the treats to see if that had anything to do with her soft shell. It's just the one bird doing it, everyone is laying fine.

vitamin D
liquid calcium or food grade DE(see below)
Worm them
Dust for mites

Add Food grade DE to the feed. 1/3c for 5 pounds of feed
supplement with calf manna(instructions of bag)

Cull after a month if the above does not fix the problem. She will likely die anyway because odds are an egg will break inside and cause an infection.

my day off started at -50*. it warmed up to -30*. I went out about every 2 hours to break ice off of waterers or replace them outright. got 5 eggs, 2 with cracks that sealed pretty nicely...

no chicks yet, and I didn't hear anything today, but my ears are ringing loudly... still, I don't think there was any sounds. hopefully tomorrow... I have a ridiculously long day tomorrow, so my cousin will come up in the afternoon to feed and water and check on Mama Gossy. I should be home around 7...

ugh, I'm ready to head out. it's warmer today, thank goodness... supposed to be 17* above without too much wind. I don't know how I do it either. just keep going I guess... hate to leave Gossamer

Ok.... slight dilemma here. I went to the North 40 to look at chicks. They are in the middle of a remodel and will not be getting chicks until sometime in the first week of March. They normally have chicks now. Darn! I was so upset the I forgot to get feed and pine shavings.

I go down the street to the Country Store and same thing. March 4th. The girl that worked there looked at me with a glazed look in her eyes when I told her about my problem. Geez.....

Oh yay... baby chicks on CL. Oh.... hatched 3 weeks ago. Argh!!! My next thought is the co-op, but you have to preorder chicks from them and I don't like going in there. Last time I ordered 4 sex links and got a rooster in the bunch.

Why is timing important?? Because Rumples needs chicks by next week. I am afraid that she will get too weak if she sets on the nest for too long. It has been 11 days so far and I figured on giving her chicks by next Tuesday. Any thoughts??

Is there a local state thread you can check? We have a great one here in Northern California.
